Greetings all.

I've always been a bit intrigued by the Opinel, but for some reason never bought one. I think I was aways just a bit scared away by the price, but after years of reading nothing but positive reviews here and else where, I decided to take the plunge.

Actually, I was in need of a new medium rod for my Sharpmaker and just couldn't justify paying shipping on the rod alone, so I added a knife to the order.

I was most interested in the No. 7, but New Graham didn't have one listed on their site so I went with the No. 6.

(I thought black and white photography fit the style of the knife).

Lately I've been gravitating more towards smaller knives because for what I need in a knife, a three inch blade can do 99% of what a four inch folder can do, and what's the point of carrying the extra weight around for one inch that most likely won't get used?

At first I was surprised at how small it is. But after playing with it for a while, I'm glad I went with the 6, as the size is just about perfect.

I know it can't handle the hard use that my Paramilitary can, but I have ever confidence that this knife can handle the vast majority of my knife needs at home. After playing with it for a few days, I think this'll be my go to knife for daily chores around the house that need a knife.

Initially I was pretty disappointed at the lacking sharpness in the blade. I usually sharpen a new knife, but it's always a bit of a let down when a knife comes out of the box (or in this case, the bag) dull. But I guess in the end it was a good thing because it let me use my new Sharpmaker rod :D.

After about ten minutes on the Sharpmaker stones (flat on the back of the base) this is probably the sharpest knife I own. That thin little blade is a scalpel now.

Sometime tomorrow I'm going to give it a quick vinegar bath to develop a patina so I don't have any rust issues.

And with my Paramilitary. The Opinel's blade is just a bit shorter than the cutting edge on the Para.

The locking collar is still very tight, will that loosen up a bit through use? The edges cut into my fingers when twisting the collar.

I really like this little guy and I plan on picking up a few more sometime down the road and staining the handles different colors and some general tinkering (I was thinking about putting some G-10 inlays on one with a pocket clip and making a tactical Opinel :p).

Great knife... $8 well spent.

A carbon #7 was my go-to knife for years till I went crazy for sodbusters. Tight collars will loosen up over time, try a little vaseline in there or if it is really tight, sometimes I will open the knife when it is 'locked closed' (use pliers) the collar will fly off and when you put it back on it will be much easier to turn. Put the little guy to work and you'll be amazed at what it can do.
