My first opinions of my new Powerlock

I got my new Powerlock about a month ago. The last two weeks I have been using it as my EDC multitool and so far I have been very happy with it.

It was a little bigger than I expected(not that you guys didn't warn me) from comparing the size listed on the SOG website compared to the size listed on the Leatherman site for my old multitool. Even with that it still makes a comfortable carry in my pocket or on my belt. I have found all the tools useful and well designed with one possible exception described below. The only thing I haven't used yet is the saw which I don't think I have ever used on any of my other tools either.

The first thing I thought after using the pliers to remove some rusted on wingnuts I was thinking that the covers didn't didn't really help the handles all that much and it still seemed to bite into my palms although not as much. Then I got to the plastic covered wingnut and completely smashed it while I was squeezing down. Once I realized that it didn't take the same pressure it did with my old multi tools I found the handles to be quite comfortable.

I only have two small complaints. The first is probably an opinion thing but I would much prefer a clip on belt loop for the case. I frequently go into schools or other areas where they frown upon carrying such things on a belt or in your pocket. When I go into these building I will slip it into my toolkit and it would be nice if I could add or remove the case from my belt without unbuckling it although I could see where that would create retention issues.

The second is the flathead screwdriver / can opener blade next to the knife. When I close the knife I find the screwdriver blade goes too far into the handle and then the lock won't lock. If there was a way to change it so it stopped much closer to the locking position it would be nice.

Now that my negative comments are the same length as my positive ones I must say I really do like this tool. It is a very usefull and very well made tool.

This is good information to read. I am in the market for a good multi-tool and at this point I think I have it narrowed down to the SOG TiNi PowerLock or the Leatherman Surge. Still haven't decided which to go with tho but I have a few weeks before i can afford either so...

Just curious-why would you want the TiNi Powerlock-it is pretty, but how long would its' looks last?

Judging from my TiNi coated knives... essentially forever. TiNi is extremely hard, difficult to even scratch a knife blade even with a honing stone. it is harder than chrome, nickle or any other coating. It's not like normal anodizing, paint or powder coat. Actually on further research the Leatherman alternative I think would be the Charge TI or XTI at this point...

I am a firm Sog fan, I have carried a Powerlock for about 5 years now, using it for everything, and yes, the gripping power is extraordinary!

I don't know why your screwdriver is interfering with the lock up though, possibly just the arrangement of the tools?

I really like my Powerlocks. I have the Leatherman Surge, Core, ST200, Charge, Gerbers, Swisstool, Spirit and I like the Powerlock the best.

I always wondered how that TiNi finish would hold up.
