My first pipe tomahawk

Got the pictures of this one last night. Its real strainght forward except for adding the axis stag as a mouth piece. I came real close to trying to scrim it myself but changed my mind before I wrecked it. I was also thinking about having scrim done on it but after finding how much the charge would be I'm just going to sell it as ready for scrim. As far as the mouth piece goes I've never seen one with anything like it. All the old ones just seem to have a nub on the end of the haft and it made me think something was missing. The head is 6 1/2" with a 2 1/4" cutting edge. The haft is 22" with a screw in wrought iron plug on the top. I think it would look better with a little larger head but as far as actually smoking it smaller would be more comfortable. BTW its a non filter......

Love it Ray. I think the added length to the mouthpiece really adds to it. The bowl turned out real nice. 2 thumbs up !
 
Mark, I thought this post was on the way to get deep sixed before someone commented on it. Got to admit the head on this one is very simple, nothing like the one your working on. Since I took the picture of this one I plan to improve on the head and that can be done in the forge. At least now I've got something to start with. I was wanting a longer haft but any longer than what I did you'd need a second person the lite darn thing. This is one of the hafts I got from Dunlap. That piece of curley maple is really perty......
 
You have about out done your self Ray. That is a neat hawk. I am on the finishing stage of my first Pipe Hawk and to say the least it is a learning experience. Have 2 more on the bench that show more promise. Gib
 
Aint nuthin wrong with simple. It makes life much easier.

I got a few from dunlaps the other day. Several curly Maple, a highly figured Maple for a special one.A curly Ash and a couple of birdseye. Nice stuff they carry.

I love it.
 
Hey Mr. Hawk man. You did good, like the mouth piece especially. I smoked a pipe some years ago and I believe 22" of drawing smoke could make a feller lite headed, not a good thing when you drop the pipe and cut off 2 or 3 toes. :eek: And the tobacco companies deny smoking is a health hazard. :D

Bill, A pipe hawk is smoked in a group setting. Everyone sits in a circle and passes the pipe to the left. Its not ment to just be enjoyed by one person. That way you don't have to get lite headed and the only time it goes out is when its empty...... I'm not real sure but I think Martha said that.....
 
Ray we always called a pass around pipe a bong, so that sounds even more dangerous, you wouldn't know your toes were cut off until you tried to keep your sandles on when the cops raided the place, and the one holding the hawk, liable to get shot. :D :D

Ray a bong is a pass around pipe with wacky tobaccy :eek:. Now you know why the only time the cowboys and indians got along was when they were smokin a pass around peace pipe, filled with wild weed tobaccy. :D :D

That is too cool! Humph a bong eh? Where is the water chamber? ;)

Really, that is nice, you have to put some pipe tobacco in it and let us know how she smokes, or i can try it out for you and give a nice little write up on it. :D

Haven't tried smoking it. I figure if I did it would no longer be called new. I've been thinking about doing a mini and have the bowl the size as a regular smoke. I wonder what the reaction would be if an officer of the law happend drive by you while you were smoking a tomahawk. Who's getting pulled over?
 
yeah that one of the things you can do with your mini hawk heads, make them into pipes, try to make them light, and about the right proportions to a real tabbaco pipe, and id bet theyd sell like crazy! id look kida funny though cause the bowl would be bigger than the blade!
