Aloha all,

I am a new member and am very grateful to have a place to enter into discussions of my newfound interests in knives.

My question regarding my newly acquired SOG Trident: For those who have one of these - Mine seems to have some lateral wobble when in the open locked position. Is this normal? I can visually see the slight wobble when grasping the blade and the handle, and then looking at the thumb studs as they go side to side. This is not an issue with my cheaper spyderco delica and cheapo gerber. Does this have anything to do with their SAT opening system requiring a little play to open?

Thanks for any feedback anyone could offer. Everyone here is way more knowledgeable than I, and I appreciate any feedback.

Welcome to Bladeforums.....

Lots of people "tweak" them by using a 5/64th allen or similiar torx that fits tight.

This is a very common discussion because I have heard they are adjusted to open smoothly, but while they are adjusted to do so, they may have a little extra play that some people are not comfortable with........me included......easy fix.

Tighten right side until blade barely opens, then loosen a hair........or leave it slightly tight and add a drop of oil, then it will become loose after a bit of opening.

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate the advice and will give it a try. This forum is... well... simply, great. Nobody else I know personally (that I know of) has an interest in knives. And since mine is just growing (damn, it is addicting - I can spend hours every day online just drooling over different types), I have LOTS to learn. This forum is a great opportunity for that. Thanks again.

Welcome !!

to fix that wobble: just open the knife and whap that screw a good one with a 5-lb sledge hammer.
that will create what is more commonly known as a "fixed-blade" SOG.

OK, so maybe Robbie has a better idea, just in case you might, at some time in the future, wish to re-fold the blade into the handle.

but hey, I like my SOG´s with fixed blades, so what do I know anyway ??

Yep, on second thought, you are better off listening to Robbie.

Anyways, once again, Welcome !!!!!!

Cheers,

Carl

Haha. The funny thing is, that as I was reading I was taking mental notes until I realized... then I was lmao. I got so far as the hammer... Thanks for the welcome. :)

My Trident also has what I would call excessive wobble. It seems there could be a factory fix for these, or even a change in production that wouldn't cost too much...change the poly washers for brass or another type of metal....any thoughts from the SOG community?

Funny, no big hammer needed for any of my Kershaws. Oh well, I'll get the three pound hand held out tomorrow and see if it fixes the problem...
