That looks like a neat little blade. I just get awful sweaters that were on sale.
 
I applaud your confidence and aggressiveness in tackling such a complex design for your first knife, however you would probably have ended up with better results if had chosen something simpler.
Having said that, I'm sure your father-in-law will be thrilled in either case.
Keep at it, the above shows quite a bit of skill for a first knife.
 
Very nice first build.

My only critique is that your knife seems to be very very heavily influenced by Buck.

We all are influenced by others, so I'm not knocking you in any way, just for me, I would suggest you change some things up instead of trying to make an exact copy of a design you like.

Keep up the good work.

It's not an original design, I was clearly mimicking Buck's Gut Knife. I wanted something with that style for him.

The wood is South American purple heart in honor of his award from his time in Vietnam.

I think Your gift is VERY THOUGHTFUL right down to the scales that You chose.
Your First Post makes me think of All we Have to be Thankful For.
