Hi. So this is my first post and I was wondering if i should get a CRKT Drifter AND a Kershaw Scrambler ( cost about $50 together) or should I get a Spyderco Tenacious. Is it better to get 2 knives or just get a tenacious.

What would you do?

Thanks for the quick response!

There is something that keeps me from getting the tenacious. IDK, the design isn't really my taste, but I have grown to like it a little bit more. I've been looking around the forum and on every thread about bargain deals, I see the Tenacious come up. Im hoping that I will grow more fond of the looks.

I really like the Drifter and Scrambler's style. That's what makes me hesitant to pull the trigger on the tenacious. I know that the Tenacious won't let me down, but I feel like it's not as cool (don't know the right word).

Thanks though!

I'd go for the Spyderco Persistence. I find it more pocket friendly then it's bigger brother.

If you're buying a knife just to use, it sounds like the Tenacious is the way to go -- if you don't like the design as much, you probably won't be afraid to really use it. However, if you already have a user, and you're more of a collector, then the Drifter & Scrambler is the way to go.

Save some money and get them all three. ;)

But if your bugdet just allows you one of them - the Spydie.

The Drifter is also nice, though.

Get a rat 2 or a blem blur from kershawguy for about $38.
I would rather have the blur myself, but if I had to pick from what you asked about, then I would chose the tenacious.

okay thanks for the suggestions. I was wondering what makes the Tenacious better than the other knives. I mean the Tenacious has 8Cr13Mov and g10 handles. The Scrambler has the same materials as the tenacious. The drifter has slightly better metal 8Cr14Mov with G10 handles. My question is what makes the Tenacious better. Is it the Heat treat or the over all quality of the Spyderco?

Those three are very different knives. The Drifter is pretty small and compact, and the Scrambler and Tenacious are a bit larger. The Scrambler is assisted, whereas the other two are not. The Tenacious and Scrambler have textured G10 handles, and the Drifter has smooth stainless steel handles. All three have different opening mechanisms (thumb stud, flipper, and thumb hole).

What knives do you have (or have had)? What characteristics did you like or dislike about them?

I don't have a Scrambler, but here's a pic of a Tenacious, Shallot, and Drifter. The Shallot is the same size as the Scrambler (same blade length, handle length, and overall length), and both have a slimmer blade and handle design (versus the wider blade/handle of the Tenacious).

Wow thanks! I am new to knives and I only have one... Yes one. It's a Gerber paraframe 1 (yeah I know, not the best). I like thumbstuds, but then again I have not tried any other opening mechanisms. The washers on the Paraframe SUCK ( I think they are made of plastic).

The Tenacious looks huge! I feel like its a little to big for me. I am only 15 sooo yeah. I don't want anything that might scare anyone. I recently got a part time job. I don't get too much but Its all spending money:D.

Thanks again.

I don't have a Paraframe, but the specs say 3" blade and 7" overall length (when opened). For reference, the grid in that pic has 1/2" squares. So, as a size reference, the blade on the Paraframe is pretty close to the Drifter, and its handle would be about 1/2" longer.

If you like the size of the Paraframe, you might look at the Kershaw Leek. It also has a 3" blade and 7" overall length. Kershawguy has several models of Leeks below $50. The RAT-2 and Zancudo are also right at that same size and can be found for just under $30.

If you really want a Spyderco, I'd save a little bit more and get the Delica instead of the Tenacious. In my opinion, it's better in every way - ergos, steel, fit & finish, carry.

Here's a shot w/ a Delica next to the Tenacious for reference. The RAT-2 and Zancudo are also pictured. Towards the left are the Endura and RAT-1, which are probably a bit larger than you're looking for.

Awesome scales on the bright green RAT 1 friend.

If you like the Drifter, then get that one and the Scrambler. It will do everything the Tenacious will do.

Rat II
Paraframe I
Tenacious
Rat I
Zt 560

Here's what people are suggesting, just for reference against something you own. The zt 0560 is just to show you what a lot of people here consider to be pretty large. Out of your options my vote goes to the tenacious.

For what it's worth, I don't really care for the Drifter.

I've owned a Tenacious and it didn't feel all that comfortable in hand. It cut great, though, but I could feel the liners biting into my hand. This is why I sold it.

I don't have a Scrambler but my good friend EDC's the blackwash version and loves it. I've handled it and it feels really nice. The blade is classic RJ Martin and the Speedsafe fires with authority. That's something to consider, if you're comfortable with assisted opening.

Either way you go, I believe it'll be a step or two up from the Gerber. Best of luck, man.
