I have long been a CRK guy. I have been doing some research for a new knife and decided I wanted to try a Hinderer XM-18 3.5" Spearpoint. I want to make sure before I start looking that I am saying the correct thing. I would like a:

• XM-18
• 3.5" Blade
• Spearpoint
• Can the blade come without the flipper part, I would like just a thumb stud
• What kind of blade steel would I want? Duratech 20CV (59-60 HRC) or Carpenter CTS-XHP (60-61 HRC) or CPM-S35VN (60-61 HRC), sorry I don't know the difference. I know that a lot of my Sebenzas are S35V.
• I also see on a dealer site it says "Gen 4" what does the Generation 4 knife model have the others don't? (okay I see the difference is the stop pin on a dealer site)

Thank you,
Howard

Hi.

The stickies are your friend for general info that answered many questions.

The new Spearpoint 3.5s do not come as non-flippers. And most if not all are 20CV.

Need2Know pretty much got it. There's a few older ones here and there that are "non-flipper", but I am not sure if a spearpoint was made in that format.

Spearpoints all come with the flipper / guard as N2K noted, there are no "older ones" that don't.

My apologies, i meant to say there "might be some". Looks like i forgot a word or two. :o there are some customs that are non-flipper, but thats a totally different ball game.

The spearpoints have been made in both Crucible CPM 20CV and Crucible CPM-S35VN
