Hello everyone.

I came to this forum to find out some more information about some knives/swords I inherited from my grandpa. I also figured it'd be nice to get some information on making my first purchase of my own.

I was looking at the CRKT m21-12.

Reasons being:
I want a folder that I can carry, this has a 3" blade that's legal for me.
I like that it's a deep bellied blade, and the serration can come in handy when out in the woods.

Stats:
M21-12: Combined Razor-Sharp & Triple-
Point Serrated Cutting Edge
Blade: Length: 3.00” (7.6 cm)
Thickness: 0.12” (0.30 cm)
Steel: AUS 8, 58-59 HRC
Closed: Handle length: 4.25” (10.8 cm)
Open: Overall length: 7.25” (18.4 cm)
Weight: 3.2 oz. (91 g)

Being only 20yrs old, I am budgeted with college tuition and all. What would be your recommendations? Is this knife crap? I read some reviews of it being a good, sturdy knife, but would like some other opinions on knives and such from this community.

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: I can get this for about $40 with shipping.

You'd be much better off with a Kershaw for that price. CRKT's are ok, but their made in china quality is not on par with Kershaw's USA made knives. It's just a whole 'nother level.

Check out the Kershaw Leek/Mini-Cyclone/Zing/anything else that has a 3" blade that I'm forgetting.

He wants deep belly. The Leek I'd pass on. The other two maybe.
If I was him. I'd score a combination edge Tenacious.

Check out the Spyderco Native. They are really well made for a great price and great steel. Walmart has them too!

Friends dont let friends buy crkt knives, unless when used they are promptly tossed over the next bridge.

i have one that is fully serrated and it is a really good knife... locks up like a bank vault, no play, super simple

It's been a while since I bought crkt's, I thought they were made in Taiwan. I also remember they were of good quality for the money. Have they changed a lot?

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll take a look at all of them. I did look at the Spyderco Native, is there any difference in between the black blade vs. the regular blade other than color? I seem to like the regular blade a bit better.

this is NOW my philosophy but 3 of my first 5 knives were CRKT. if this is what ur budget and style allows then great purchase!

The CRKT M21 is a fine knife. I wouldn't go with the combo edge though. Not very useful imo. It does have e nice belly, and it's got their AutoLAWKS feature. The Spyderco Tenacious is made out of the same stuff, but you get a 4-way clip, and it's a bit bigger then 3".

I'd say go for it. It was my first knife (no joke) and I've always loved it. :)

Well I appreciate everyone's help and input.

For my first knife, I settled on the Spyderco Native, 3 1/8" blade, nice deep belly, and CPM S30V steel.

It has a sturdy lock on it, which has no give whatsoever for me. I'm happy with the pick. Now to find ways to use it :)

There you go  That's a much better choice.

Good luck, Thanks for sharing your decision with us.

Post how your experiences are with it later. :D
