I've admired them here and drooled over Ebay auctions...but every time a couple hundred jelly beans collected in one pile I would find something I had to have more than a Randall knife. So, stopped by one of my local pawn shops (I hit the circuit at least once a week looking for Case knives and S&W revolvers..old ones of course) and nearly made a mess in my drawers when I saw this lying in a case marked $159................

Can anyone give me an aprrox. date based on these pics?
I'm assuming a model 1, but a non-catalog version??
Oh yeah, the pawn shop mgr. came down to $125 and told me ;) that they bring ALMOST $200 on EBAY!!! LOL!!
I bet the next one I buy will cost a little more

Elkabong,

You scored big time at that price, as the knife has a potential resale value of $400 more than what you paid, on the open market today...nicely done!

As to date of manufacture, the logo sheath snap was introduced on 01/01/95, and the brown thread sheath stitching was primarily used for about a year between 1998/1999...

Hope that helps,

Shel

If the guy loosed it for that cheep he prolly bought it for like $75... nobody who actually waited and paid $350+ for it is going to sell it for that. Not that it matters but I bet that knife was stolen or given to them and un knowingly sold one of their relatives most prized posessions for nothing.

At least the current owner will love it!

Awesome snag...I went to the pawnshop yesterday and all they had were a few rusty Ka-Bars marked at $90 apiece and a chinese made fantasy knife....:grumpy:

If I see the pictures clearly, I happen to have the exact same model. I ordered it from Randall and took delivery in 1995. #1 with 7" blade and stag grip, nickel silver guard and duralumin pommel. It was ordered from the catalog, and all of those are standard options that are specified at time of ordering. For my taste--the most handsome of his models. Back then it only took about 14 months to get the knife. I think the wait today is closer to 5 years.
