I just got my first ever RAT Cutlery knife, the RC-4. It really seems like a great knife. Great size for EDC, nice comfortable handle, overall I'm very impressed with the knife. I had posted over here about my Ontario/RAT mistake. I said that I was going to keep the two Ontarios I got but I've changed my mind (More on that later.)

Like I said, the RC-4 seems like a great medium sized knife. Small enough to carry all day long but big enough (and certainly sturdy enough) to do a whole lot of work. I think the only real complaint I have is the kydex sheath. It's okay, but I am going to order a different one. I like the one that comes with the RC-3 but the one that came with the RC-4 doesn't seem to be designed as well. I'll probably have Okuden make me a custom one with a slot built in for a fire steel.

Originally I was going to keep the Ontario RAT knives I bought but I was going to grind all of my Ontario-era Old Hickory knives in half and send to them to let them know what I thought of them. I'm still going to send Ontario my crappy Old Hickorys, but I have already put my Ontario RATs on Ebay to get rid of them. The RC-4 makes the RAT 3 completely unnecessary. The RAT 5 is a completely different knife with a different purpose, but I also got a Busse Badger Attack in the mail today with a 5 inch blade that makes the RAT 5 look like a poor Pakistani kitchen knife. Between my Busse, my RC-4, my small Sebenza, and my several different variations of Benchmade Griptilian (to say nothing of a few Leatherman tools, Randalls, a Chris Reeve Aviator etc...) I'd say I have all the knives I want for a while. Of course I won't stop buying more, as long as my wife doesn't mind.

hey dude rat makes sheaths out of leather, with a slot on the side for fire steel.. You can find them at a dealer...

I've wondered why the RC-4 came with a kydex sheath when the others are molded...any answers?

You can get a really nice Leather Sheath for your RC-4 at knivesshipfree.com.

I am actually pretty amazed about your problems with Ontario, I have a RAT-3 I love, and the guys here will tell you, I am very attached to my TAK-1's. As a matter of fact, until I can get a RC-6, the TAK-1 is my constant blade. While I like everyone on the RAT forum disapprove of Ontario's legal and customer service practices, they still make a good blade. Comparing my RC-3 to my RAT-3, I like them both very much. The REAL difference is the two companies approach to customer service. RC's is second to none, Ontario... well they seem to be nice guys, but .... :/

Rowen puts a LOT of pride into each knife that comes off the line, that is for sure.

Anyways, enjoy your RC-4, it is a beautiful blade.

Welcome to the family. You will be amazed at the quality of the RAT cutlery products and service.
