I just got my first ever RAT Cutlery knife, the RC-4. It really seems like a great knife. Great size for EDC, nice comfortable handle, overall I'm very impressed with the knife. I had posted over here about my Ontario/RAT mistake. I said that I was going to keep the two Ontarios I got but I've changed my mind (More on that later.)
Like I said, the RC-4 seems like a great medium sized knife. Small enough to carry all day long but big enough (and certainly sturdy enough) to do a whole lot of work. I think the only real complaint I have is the kydex sheath. It's okay, but I am going to order a different one. I like the one that comes with the RC-3 but the one that came with the RC-4 doesn't seem to be designed as well. I'll probably have Okuden make me a custom one with a slot built in for a fire steel.
Originally I was going to keep the Ontario RAT knives I bought but I was going to grind all of my Ontario-era Old Hickory knives in half and send to them to let them know what I thought of them. I'm still going to send Ontario my crappy Old Hickorys, but I have already put my Ontario RATs on Ebay to get rid of them. The RC-4 makes the RAT 3 completely unnecessary. The RAT 5 is a completely different knife with a different purpose, but I also got a Busse Badger Attack in the mail today with a 5 inch blade that makes the RAT 5 look like a poor Pakistani kitchen knife. Between my Busse, my RC-4, my small Sebenza, and my several different variations of Benchmade Griptilian (to say nothing of a few Leatherman tools, Randalls, a Chris Reeve Aviator etc...) I'd say I have all the knives I want for a while. Of course I won't stop buying more, as long as my wife doesn't mind.
