After many years researching and trying to decide on the perfect hardcore hiking/survival knife to replace my Kabar USMC, I have finally found it! My original plan was to go a stainless SOG or Fallkniven, or ESEE's 1095. My goal was something smaller than my Kabar but stronger and more robust with a high end steel. Last month I started researching the Swamp Rat brand and after much consideration finally jumped.

So, this past week I got back from vacation and found this little puppy waiting at the post office......Black Canvas with Sage blade! I am totally impressed with this knife, it's built like a brick sh$% house! Seriously, it would be impossible to break this thing unless you were doing something really stupid. The ergonomics are amazingly better than all the typical blocky survival knife handles, and the canvas provides excellent grip. Blade came sharp and ready to rock. And to finish it off, the knife just has a great clean look to it. Not that it matters that much, but this thing has curves that really flow making it one beautiful and functional piece of equipment.

Customer service was great too; Eric put up with my many emails and let me change color options at the last minute....thank you Swamp Rat!

Now I just need to decide on a sheath and get out in the woods to test it out :-)
 
Congrats man! You are going to be so hooked. My RMD is what got me started...now I have 4 Rats, 3 Hogs, and 2 Dogs...talk about a house full of crazy animals amirite? I have to say the only knife I have found to serve better as an all around camp knife is my Busse SAR 4 LE. Great start!
 
Congrats! After lots of searching Ive pretty much come to the conclusion that the rmd is the best all around knife ever made. I'm on my 8th rmd...... And I've currently got 3 :)
 
I'LL TAKE IT.....Oh...crap...sorry....I just got all excited... :D ...trying to lay MY hands on one just now but they are out of stock and I keep missing them or getting snubbed in the for sale threads here....nice looking knife mate...what is the coloUr combo you have there ??

Congrats, the RMD continues to get more and more popular and obviously, they can't make enough, as there alway's seem's to be a demand for them. I will never part with mine for sure, or my HRLM's.
 
Thanks guys! Anyone know if there are any production sheaths that fit, especially leather or nylon? I may end up going for a kydex one from the board members, but I am kinda liking the leather with handle snap options. I noticed that you can snag Kabar sheaths like this for ten bucks or so, but of course the regular size one is 2 inches too long. But that plain leather sheath with a handle retaining snap is what I'm going for. So are there any other inexpensive leather or synthetic options around from other brands? What are ya'll using with your knives?

I think kydex is your best option for the RMD. Thats what I use because the RMD is just a straight up work horse and I like a sheath that will take a beating as well as be able to handle water. PM Azwelke, Steelnut, David Brown, Bussecrazed, Badegercustomdotcom or any of the other fantastic kydex makers on this forum and they should have them ready to ship.

If you want leather contact leatherman, Chuddybear, or if you want to wait but want absolute perfection Rainwalker. There are also some leather RMD sheaths on the bay

Love this knife. Great score! I've got three! I agree with KalEl, this is definitely one of the best knives ever made. :thumbup:

RMDs make the world go round. Awesome knife, hay. I had ine for a few weeks and havnt put it down yet.
Love that blade.
 
Azwelke ~ Got any pics of the RMD in a taco style kydex with the clip/Tek Lok? I keep seeing pics of them but not with the Teklok so I'm trying to figure out how they work. Thanks!
 
Looks awesome and grats on the purchase, the RMD is what opened the way for a Busse/Busse kin addiction :)
 
Thats not a puppy - its a RODENT...lol ....I have the RMD in sage and tan - I love how the scales are carved so they fit my hand perfectly. And you are right about the curves.
 
Yep what drodent said it's a rodent. Youll probably really like the puppys in the family. My first was a rodent, the solution in fact.
