my first thought is "the he11 are you thinking jerk? that is way sharper than any razor blade".

dude I'm not right.

I always carry a couple band-aids in my billfold, not so much
for me,but for who ever looks at my knives.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL who the heck slides their finger on a blade to test sharpness anyway? I wouldn't pick up a pair of childrens sizzors and do that crap. People amaze me though.

New Graham sends out a small bandaid dispenser with each knife they sell. It's in the truck so I'm working off of memory, but I'm pretty sure it has an American flag on it. The logo says "You're gonna need 'em". I like that.

Anytime I hand a knife to a friend to look at, I always say, casually and quietly, "It's sharp". If they cut themselves, I'm prepared to smile........ no words are necessary other than maybe "Hey! Watch it! Don;t get blood on my shoes!" and possibly "Here...gimme that thing before you cut your own head off". Sympathy is unecessary and uncalled for.

If they want to know how to test for sharpness, I tell them to hold the knife in one hand, blade up. "Gently slide your thumb down and away, perpendicular to the blade. Feel that? Sharp, huh?"

this is my disclaimer that i have at my website. "I will not be responsible for anyone getting cut by one of my knives or one I have sharpened" i had a friend ask if i "can not sharpen a knife so sharp". i asked him why?

I've been known to tell a few folks...... You said you wanted to look at it.... Not cut yourself...

Otherwise, they get the same disclaimer.

Whenever someone tells me that my knife is "really sharp," I reply that I was taught in boot camp to keep my rifle clean and my knife sharp. End of discussion!;)

I like that. The customer comes back the next day after you sharpened his knife. "Could you dull this thing up a little?" That's funny stuff

If I here that then usually I have to say "my dad sharpened it"
I can get a knife sharp but man he can get them scary sharp.
I've been sharpening knives for over 30 years and I just don't have the same skill he has.
Worse part is HE KNOWS IT

that's awsome. If it's not a chainsaw, my dad cant' sharpen it.

I was at my friends house one time and they were amazed that not only my SAK could slice soft bread with ease, but that it left a cleaner cut than any serrated knife they've seen. They thought you could only use serrated knives to cut bread.

Anyways I handed it to my friends girlfriend because she said she wanted to see how sharp it was and first thing she did was run her finger right down the edge.

Is it just me or does an extremely dismal percentage of the population even know the basics of knife sharpening? This includes people that use them everyday too.

I always figure the best way to teach them is to just let them teach themselves. That's why I say, so casually when I hand a knife to someone, "It's sharp". If they don;t ask me how to test it then they can do it any old way they like. A little blood never hurt any knife I ever knew.

A couple of months ago a young guy asked to see my BM210. No, he didn;t cut himself, but what he did I've never seen before. With the knife in his right hand, he opened his left hand, palm up and fingers together....straight out. He took the knife and scraped it several times from the knuckles to the second finger joints (inside of hand and fingers now). He handed it back and said "man that's sharp. What do you use to sharpen it with?"

Now later, when I was alone, I tried that. I've tried it several times since. I cannot tell if the blade is sharp or dull. I've reached the conclusion that he was taught that by somebody and he thiks he can tell a knife is sharp or dull by doing it.

once i was chatting with my brother about my knives, and how sharp i keep them (some sharp enough to shave with) and he wanted to know why.

i told him because there was no reason not to. he said that there was no reason to have them that sharp. oh well. maybe he has never actually tried to cut something with a knife before.
