So this old knife has been kicking around my family for about 40 years. When we were cleaning out my mother's basement no one else wanted it so I took it home. Turns out it was a big block stamped Marbles MSA circa 1903. It was missing the pommel and the spacers on the butt end and had a cracked spacer on the tip end as well. Knowing that finding proper materials was going to be important. What I didn't know was that finding them would be nearly impossible. I found an antique stag horn bottle opener on Ebay and some black vulcanized paper online at a site for people who wind their own guitar pickups. The thicker red vulcanized paper was a really tough item to find. I finally found a guy who had purchased a bunch of it that was NOS from a factory that had been sitting for 50 years.
I finally had the time over the last couple of days to put it back together. I formed the 11 spacers I needed, Stacked them on, made the pommel and nut formed and polished everything then soaked the pommel in Espresso so it would match the untouched stag handle.
