I was given this older Hibbard elephant toe. Cruising this sub-forum made me want to try fixing it back up. I did not disassemble it completely (that's my next project). It was quite a learning experience, and I made a number of mistakes that hopefully won't be repeated. Patience is my biggest problem, using too coarse grit or putting more pressure than needed. It is quite addictive though and I've already dug around and found several more to fix up. Most of the work done was with a 1x30 belt sander and a 3" buffing wheel. Here are some before and after pics.

Nice job!
That's a fantastic coloring transformation you ended up with!!

Stunning transformation. I really like that acrylic you used. It reminds me of something by Vincent van Gogh or Edvard Munch. Really fantastic work.

Hey, that came out pretty nice! Careful, this can lead to lack of free time, searching for junkers at flea markets, etc.

Very nice! Well done.
I've got a couple candidates for that type of treatment, just sitting around waiting for me to get off my butt and have a whack at 'em. Your results are reminding me that I should quit mucking about and get on with it...! ;)

That came out great, and as Lemmy Caution said, that's an amazing spiritual match on the scales! Well done!

Nice job man! I dig your new acrylic covers. Can't tell it was restored, just looks old and well loved.
