Finally Russian knives come to be available here! And I bought RosArms Edelveis as I buying Benchmades, Spydercos, Kershaws, Bucks etc.

Here it is:

With traditional shapes and birch bark handle!

Is it just beautiful!

Steel is best soviet stainless 110x18 MSHD - 1.1% C and 18% Cr - it is in 440C composition range - at the top of it, so suppose to be very good steel. Also RosArms is from Zlatoust - Russian 200 years old historical bladesmitj center, kind of Solingen in Germany, I hope they know how to make good blades.

Here Edelveis vs Solution:

RosArms-Edelveis-12.jpg

Looks similar but they are very different knives - Russian is kind of ecologicall - natural birch bark handle - very light, like cork but much more durable. As I kniw only Russian making birch bark handles (in production at least. Blade is 5 5/16" long 1 3/4 wide and only 11/128" thick with hollow ground it promices to be excellent slicer. In result of bark handle and thin blade weight is only 104 gramm vs 317 gramm for Solution. It is more comfortable for hunter-trapper who walk in the forest for weeks, carrying all equipmwnt on himself and need more cutter/slicer/scinner.

Handle is out of bark and guard and pommel is wallnut - no metal at all - reason for this is that in Russia hunters have to operate in extreme cold and wood is more comfortable then metal in this condition.

Thanks, Vassili.

More I play with it more I like it. I found out than so little thicknes 2.2mm made intentionaly, because usual thickness as I see on their website is 5mm. So they choose it to make this knife excellent delicate slicer.

Thanks, Vassili.

Beautiful knife and GREAT pictures!! Super looking blade shape. Please let us know how the Steel is during use, am very interested.

Also, did the knife come with a Leather Sheath? What do you think of it?

t has leather sheath. It is kind of scandinavian - part of the handle is covered by some kind of sleeve, however the knife has guard - so this sleeve is not completely around, but still cover big part of handle and I like it.

Only problem with sheath - the leather is too thin, better be twice thicker on my opinion.

Thanks, Vassili.

There were two Russian guys set up this last weekend, at the Mt. Vernon, IL knife show with a whole table of these knives. Not bad. Some of the grinding was a little sloppy, and the sheaths needed to be of a thicker leather, but they were very affordable and very lightweight knives. By affordable, I mean the most expensive and largest knife on the table was $100.

I was very impressed with Edelweis, so I decide to get full-size knife from RosArms - Fox-2:

It is just super! Just design alone is excellent!

This is my second one and I agan was impressed with high quality. All the grind lines are perfect (you may check photoes) - may be I am lucky but the quality is actually very good! This one also has sheath with thick leather:

I am very happy with this one. I found another supplier with better prices - discountcuttlery.net.

My website was down for few days - pictures were not available. Sorry. Now it is back.

I am really excited about this knives. Unfortunately full line of their models are not presented - they have much more 5mm blades with different but still beautifull shapes. Hope they'll bring more here.

Thanks, Vassili.
