Thanks for looking, and your comments.

I think you nailed the blade shape and the laminate is spectacular! I also appreciate the taper into the tang. The rest is differences in opinion I think you'll find anywhere. I prefer handles that are less tall, but you've got the shape perfectly. Also I think it's too thick. But like I said, those are just my opinions. Overall, a beautiful knife that I'd be happy to own!

Well, opinions are welcome, especially from people who have used them. I've never handled a santoku. I looked at some at Kohl's, and drew this one based on pics from the web, and it's hard to make a good 3 dimensional knife based on 2 dimensional pictures. So I appreciate your input. :)

I like it! I own one Santoku, it's a Whustof(sp?). I've never liked it much, it's too light in the hand.
The santoku can be a slicer, but it's really for fast chopping. I don't think they have to be a "heavy" knife, but some weight in the handle seems to be a good thing.
Without holding your knife, I can't say for sure, but I think I'd like yours better than mine, as far as the mass distribution.
The laminate hamon is fabulous, like dual earthquakes!

Phillip that is a great looking knife and that double line is just sick, is that just 3 layers?

Very dramatic finish! Would be the show piece in any kitchen!!

As for functional design, it looks like your interpretation of a 2D
image worked out pretty well in the real thing...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Looks GREAT to me Phillip. That hamon is killer and the tapered tang is a nice detail too!

Hey. Great blade. Very nice knife. Sometimes new kitchen knife makers make the area at the top of the handle where it sweeps into the heel of the blade much too rounded. This is well done and lets the index finger snug right into the sweet spot. Very nice.
