I gotta tell ya I was really sweating this one and may have even excepted an excuse or two to delay this grind a couple days. I sure did not want to have to profile and drill that thick S30V again. I shoved her (very gently) into the grinder last evening and after some HAND finishing I think I got it. I have her in stress relieve right now because tapering that heavy S30V tang was a real chore too (I'm finished with blue zirconia belts).

I do like her a lot. Hope the customer will.

Thanks guys. I know I'm in for some - I told you so's.

Do you hollow grind the tang prior to tapering?
If not, you're going to a lot of extra work.

I'm going to when I get a wheel platen small enough. The 10 inch platen likes a lot of road space.

I agree with Mike,Also Mike gave me a tip some time back that really
made me tapper my tangs a little different way,I am now tapper them after HT
I hollow grind then out then finish them up on a Disc Sander.

Well yes, it makes perfect sense but my 10 inch wheel is just too much. I need more equipment :)

Ya'll did get me wonder'n. I might could roll the belt over the edge and point tang end down and gouge it out like that. Think I'll give it a try next time. Thank ya gents.

Hey Nick,

You're an ol'Scandi grinder. This thing is totally different in more than just one way to doing a full-V grind. Man, full-V grinds are easy now!!! I thought full-V's were pretty touchy. They ain't nothin compared to this stuff. I don't want another one for a while. While I was grinding her though I did think I might be getting some good practice toward learning hollow grinding.

The HT is going to be a somebeach for this one. I've got a cutting edge on her. Sure am glad its air hardening.

Roger, That looks GOOD! And you don't even look Scandinavian! If it is tricky grinding for you, it is going to be a real pi--er for most of us! I haven't seen anything but great work of yours. Just a learning curve for the new grind and the swearing off using those blue belts. I just glazed my last one that I had, so I am going to order some good ones(NOT BLUE)!

I'm going ceramic 60 grit from Pop and when I can swing it I'm going to try the Norton's (or is it Norax) - whatever.
