My first Scandinavian Knives

Hello! I am relatively new to Scandinavian-style blades, although I've been working with knives as a hobby for almost thirty years. These are pictures of my first two blades - I call them "brothers" because they share the same scale materials.

The first is a Poul Strande 85 Damascus blade. He makes such nice blades - absolutely beautiful steel. The scales are stabilized Karelian birch, white fiber spacers, a damasteel bolster, and something a bit non-traditional - a piece of antique maroon linen Micarta. The Micarta is an original recipe from Westinghouse and is over 50 years old. It is nothing like the commercial phenolic laminates available today - it is much denser, harder, and takes a lustrous finish. The knife is finished with only a bit of Renaissance Wax and buffing.

The "brother" knife is an Enzo Nordic 95 in O1 steel. I made this knife to be a user for woodcarving and camping. This is my first knife in O1 - this steel will take a fantastically-sharp edge. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces. The scale is stabilized Karelian birch and antique maroon Westinghouse Micarta - both from the same blocks as its brother. The spacers are blue fiber and the bolster is brass.

Unfortunately, I'm still new at leatherwork, so I don't have sheaths to show today. I'm an eager student though, and my youngest son and I are working at making sheaths for these as part of his Boy Scout Leathercraft merit badge.

Cheers!
