I have to thank Fiddleback for teaching me (and Scott Gossman for teaching him!) to put WD40 on the belt which makes it work much better than dry. It turned out real nice but it took me a lot longer than if I would have hand sanded it. It took a while to get it the way I wanted. Practice will make it easier for sure. I'm just very picky I guess. Tell me what you think. The blade is 4 1/4" tip to scales and overall length is just over 9". The steel is O1 and is a little under 3/16" thick. Thanks for looking.

Wow that is a great finish!! I have always questioned if SB belts work, now I'm gonna have to get one.

Once you get it down, it only takes a few passes on each side with a SB belt to get a nice finish. As long as you do a good job grinding it first its very quick.

Awesome Ray! It is very Kephart-esque and still has that Laconico look.

It has enough of a point, plenty of straight edge close to the handle, some belly... there is nothing that design can't do.

Very nice!! I've tried the "working" finish before and I'm with you -- it takes me longer than handrubbing. :D I'll have to try the WD-40 trick.

Thanks for the comments guys. I used a blue colored belt. I think it's either medium or fine.

I only regurgitated Scott Gossmans teaching. He's been really great to me while I learn to do this stuff. All of you have and I'm grateful.

Great looking blade Ray. Did you use it on the handle at all? You gotta switch to a clean belt, but it does good things on handles too.

Andy, thanks. This forum and the people in it are just so informative and so willing to help and give advice. I don't know what I'd do without it. I know I wouldn't be a knifemaker without this forum.
I didn't use it on the handle. I usually hand sand the handle after shaping. I use water to wet sand it to 400 grit and buff with fine steel wool for the finish. It takes less than 5min to do. Maybe I'll try scotchbrite but I don't have a clean belt. Thanks again!

I think "very picky" is a character "flaw" that I look for in a knifemaker!

Looks very nice!

Sounds like we need a trick of the trade fourm . So you makers can pass the tricks and methods that work to novice and future knife makers . Ray you just keep getting better at this knife making thing .very nice finish.
