Well, I did it. I bought a Sebenza -- a used Large Pheasant Tail CGG to be more precise. (This is the first "real" knife I've purchased; I traded in the Gerber AR 3.00 I bought for a Sharpmaker 204.) The "birth cirtificate" says it was born in May of 1999. I saw something in a thread here about a new clip after '99, so I checked chrisreeve.com, and the drawings on the Sebenza page show a straight clip. Mine has a dip about a third of the way down right above where the scale is thinned to bend to form the lock. I've been clipping the knife in my pocket and it seems pretty secure, but it's not quite as secure as I'd like. Are the new clips tighter or less obtrusive when gripping the knife or what? And how much would it cost and how long would it take to have one sent from the Reeves?

Oh... hmmm... well... OK then. I guess if I had looked at the date on the drawings on chrisreeve.com I would have seen that they were made in 1996. I was clipping the knife to khaki shorts before, but I wore jeans today and was pleasently surprised by how well the little dip in the clip gripped my pocket.

Oh, and I was just wondering: Does anyone else have trouble getting the last inch or so of the blade closest to the tip where it curves as sharp as the rest of the blade? Is this maybe just a result of the blade being thicker near the tip? I sharpen it on my Sharpmaker, but this part of the blade always seems less effective at slicing through paper, for instance.

I love this knife by the way.

And I almost forgot: Is a leather strop necessary or worth the money? How about a good steel?
