My first Sebenza

Ok, Ive finally received my first Sebenza-a large classic with Mammoth Ivory Inlays, today.
It took some time, thanks to a delay with the postal service as well as a mix up on the dealers side. They actually sent me a Mnandi, first... . :(

I got to say that the tolerances seem to be VERY tight. Pretty nice to see how tight a blade can be, on a folder! ;) I would wish the inlays would be a bit more creamy colored, as they seem to be a bit pale (compared to the Mammoth Ivory scales on my Tim Hancock folder).

Anyways, I thought Id share some photos of it - even though there have been a couple of very nice pix of a Mammoth Ivory Sebenza, posted by Gary Graley recently... . ;)

That there Sebenza is one sweet knife. I think if I was ever going to get an inlay that would have to be the one!

Yeah, it is nice-though Ive got to admit that I was considering a wood inlay too-for some nice contrast... . ;)

Akubra -- beautiful knife! So let me get this straight. The dealer sent you the mnandi by mistake? Did you send it back, or decide that you needed the matching sibling? They look GREAT together.

Here's mine:

Very nice shots! And I still have mine, must be some kind of a record ;)

Actually I will return it to the dealer. :) Im not much of a fan of the Mnandi-its too small for my taste, and not "enough knife" for the high price in my opinion... . ;) :D And to be honest, the Sebenza tore a nice hole into my wallet as is-so I guess Im glad that I dont fancy the Mnandi-saves me from getting yet another knife!

Thanks! Your photos werent too bad either! ;) In fact they helped to sell the Mammoth Inlays to me. :D
I was considering a wood inlay, like Tamboti, but after all decided to go with Mammoth. I dont regret my decision, just wish the Inlays would be a bit darker, as I have mentioned earlier... .

I was wondering when your knife was made. Both, the Mnandi and the Sebenza were made in 2004 (September and December). It got me wondering if it just happend to be a coincidence, or if CRK are only making those from time to time- rather than on a more "regular" basis... .

Glad to be of assistance :)

The date on mine is fairly new, March 22, 2006 so less than a year old
on it's make and yep I'd rather it was bark mammoth as well but, it's
still pretty cool as you can see the grain of the ivory well.

And I agree, the Mnandi just didn't fit me, had one a while back but didn't
warm up to it and sent it back. I'm hoping this one sticks with me this time!

I see-so I guess my dealer had the Sebenza and Mnandi for a while, since both are 2004 models.

As for the Mnandi-personally I think its too small and too light! ;) I wouldnt want to go much smaller than the size of a large Sebenza... . :D

Well I like all of the pic's. Love the Seb's and don't own one yet, but that engraving on the Hancock folder is real nice, does Hancock have knives on various websites for sale I suppose ??

Thanks for the compliments.

In fact I have yet to see a Hancock knife for sale, online. Ive searched all the "big" online stores, and none of them is stocking any. Mind you, Ive got the folder made in 2000. I think Tims knives may be in even higher demand nowadays... . :)

Theres some more info and photos of my other Tim Hancock knife, as well as photos by others, in this thread :
