Howdy Folks! Well I finally decided to take the plunge And
invest in my first Sebbie.:DI've been collecting And using
knives of quality for About 12 years now .I have About 50
knives in my possession. I've got about 30 Spyderco's (love their designs,
And their custom collaborations) and 20 Benchmade's (Love the Axis Lock)

After Reading some of the recent, and Rather heated discussions
on this forum on Rather OR not Sebbie's are " worth it" I decided to try one for myself.Besides, I'm going to be 50 this week;)

I am lucky to have a very nice brick And mortar store near by
And he takes trade-in's So... I took 2 knives with me to trade in.

My choices were the lrg Sebenza classic, lrg Sebenza Classic w/ Bocote inlay
And the lrg "3- in line".I quickly eliminated the "plane Jane" Sebbie And concentrated on the other two.(I know the suspense must be Killing you guys:D)Anyway... I chose the Bocote in-lay becuz of the wood on the pocket clip side. If the 3 in-line had some design on the clip side I might
have taken that one. Maybe....

Anyway I'm very happy to have done this. The knife cost me $130 After
trade ins. Now I just have to work up the courage to take it to work
With me.:eek:My Job can be some what rough on knives.

Thanks for your patience for the long post. ED

Ps-I have a Spydy Sharpmaker what setting do you use on your
Sebbie- 30° or 40?

I have a Sharpmaker, but I use flat stones on my Sebenza. IIRC, CRKs come with a 40-degree edge angle standard, so that may be a good angle to start with. Use it a bit and see if a more acute angle is good for you. I estimate that my Sebenza's edge is somewhere between 35-40 degrees, and it works well as my EDC.

The danger now, of course, is that few factory knives will likely be satisfactory to you, now that you're a Sebenza owner.;)

I've always had trouble sharpening factory sebenzas as their edge angle were >20 per side. Don't be discouraged if you find this to be true as well.

Good going on the Bocote wood Classic. The large Classic with wood inlays, or ivory inlays, and micarta inlays are the best looking Sebenza,s around as far as I'm concerned. The wood/ivory/micarta also improves the grip by thickening it and giving you a little more to grab on to. I'll be receiving a large Classic w/snakewood inlays in about 3 weeks. Just in time for Christmas! A little Johnsons Wax, or Ren Wax will really bring out the grain and/or color of the wood. Enjoy the Sebbie in good health!

Wow! $130 for a new Sebenza. You got a great deal! Not many places I know will take trade in's on a knife like that. Great choice on the wood btw. You'll have a hard time NOT carrying it. I'd like to see pictures as well. I'm guessing a whole new knife world has opened up for you now.

Tread lightly Grasshopper or you'll find yourself with several more Sebenza's before you can stop. Not a bad thing mind you.
;)

Congrats on your first Seb! It may take you awhile to carry and use it. It took me about 6 months. But since I've been carrying it, I wonder why I waited so long. I've sharpened (touched up) mine using the Sharpmaker at 40° and it's shaving sharp.

Thanks for the nice Replies guys. I Appreciate the good Advice on
using the sharpmaker.
Sorry but I don't have the picture posting thing figured out.
( Still trying to figure out the digital camera thing:o)

By the way the MNANDI is Awesome!! (Must practice some self control)
"I AM a knife addict" Repeat, Repeat. :D:D

Hi Guys,

Just received my first Sebenza today! Took it apart and lubed it up - it was dry and pretty stiff. Thanks for all the help and advice!

Hopefully these pic's link alright....

It's crazy how sharp it is (at least it seems that way to me). I've never had a knife that would slice like this right out of the box!
