I've taken the plunge and now have a Large Classic BG-42 Sebenza and a Small Sebenza 21 thanks to members right here. I could not be happier with these folding knives. I have gone through Benchmade, Hinderer, Spyderco and a few others but non have captured me quite like these.

The Large was in used condition and had a light, ''scotch bright'' treatment when I received it.
I decided to expand on the scotch bright finish by proceeding to a sanding block and wet/dry sand paper. I first used 400 grit and then finished with 600 wet/dry, which is what you see in the photos.

I also re-profiled the edge and polished it on a strop.

The small 21 is in, ''as received'' condition.

Does Horton know you are buying Reeves? Nice looking Sebenzas, especially like the finish on the large- it almost looks like it's glowing.

very nice. I too have been all over the knife collecting world, and have made my way back to the sebenza. I think it comes down to how well it fits in the pocket. Good luck with your new babies.

Congratulations on those new sebbies, welcome to the club!
Very nice photos, I really like that Lg. BG42 had a small one
like it a couple years back.
The polishing job looks good too.

I too like the finish on the large. If it were mine, I'd probably use some polishing compound and take the anodization off of the thumb stud, giving the knife that multi-tone silver look.

Congrats on some nice knives!

Thanks everyone!

I spent about an hour sanding this one and really like the way it turned out.

Fooj,
That is a good idea on the thumb lug.

RE: BG-42 steel. I have never had a knife with this steel and have never gotten a knife to split hair as fast as this one during the sharpening process, not that it wasn't a lot of work, it was, it just got, ''super sharp'' sooner than I expected it to.

Great job all round on the large BG42.

Just wondering, how did you re profile the edge? By hand on stones, belt sander or some other device.

Thanks friend,

I used DMT continuos stones.

I started with course and moved up to extra extra fine, there finest grit.

I fineshed on my home made leather strops loaded with 1 micron Hand American diamond spray and .5 micron spray, final finish.

So the re profiling was done by hand on stones? Not sure what you mean by continuos stones?? :o

Sorry,

To clarify, yes, by hand, free hand, on stones.
DMT sells non-continuous stones and stones with a full continuous surface of diamonds, the full contiuous are what I used.

Nice finishing job on that Large Regulator Sebenza

Also a killer edge

Are you going to refinish the 21

Thanks RICKSTER,

Yes, I will be refinishing the,''21'' also and will post photos here when it is done.

Thanks for clarifying. That really is a good result by hand.

I do my own sharpening free hand as well using a combination of water stones and DMT diamond stones (the ones with the holes - non continuos :D now that I know what that means). My results are not as good as yours, but you have given me a good example of where to aim for

I actually have never tried any other method of sharpening, besides free hand that is. I learned on Arkansas oil stones as a kid and moved to the diamond stones only recently, as a result of acquiring knives with blade steels containing Vanadium, like S30V, which are nearly impossible to sharpen on oil stones.

I have never tried water stones.
