THis is definitely not your ordinary sheath, but that was the plan. The Sheath is made of 2" pvc, and covered with a BDU sleave, scrap leather, and a few feet of paracord. Used a Lg Tek Lock for carry. The is carrying a 10" Ontario Survival knife.

I'm not thrilled with the finish work on the leather, (back side :( ), but I'm working on learning to stitch leather for better results for future sheaths.

Total cost: $7 for the tek lok. All other parts are recycled.

Working of a method to fasten a small survival kit to the front, so ideas would be cool (thought of an old metal band aid tin with leather straps... :) ).

Opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks y'all!

Wow man, what a brilliant and clever sheath for nuthin'! Love the Avatar and signature , BTW....

(Hey, I'm home alone sick, and nobody is commenting on this thing. ANY comments would be cool.)

HOLY CRAP jimh0220! What is that huge turd you call a sheath? I am appalled to see that posted here!

There, I added the first insult too. C'mon folks, please let me know what you think!

Personally... I like it! I think that not only have you created a functional sheath, you made it look like a well thought-out creative project with a bit of flair. I especially like the idea of the button cuff and the frog, and both go well with the leather that you chose!

If it were mine, I'd wear it proudly.

Don't knock your first attempts, Jim! I have been making the critters for over 65 years and I assure you that my first attempts were neither as functional, attractive, or well thought out. Admittedly, perfection is rarely achieved or acknowledged until after the maker is dead---and seldom then without the assistance of the collectors factual or fictional depiction of the article. I know you have no desire to earn kudos in that fashion particularly if it requires your demise----Right?

KEEP TRUCKING , JIM! YOU DID GOOD!! ---

First sheath....looks good and out of recycled stuff not bad !

As long as YOU like it Jim....that's all that matters.....;)

So you are sayin'?;)

Yeah, it aint for everyone, and was just an adventure in different. Definitely not the quality and style done by the true artisans (You DEFINITELY included) seen here.

Just curious the reaction it would get here.

Thanks for the comment!

Just bustin your chops man.....seriously, you obviously have some imagination and artistic talent.....I'd like to see what you could do if/when you got serious about working with leather.
May I suggest this book by Al Stohlman......if there's a Tandy store near you, it can be found there too.

Just visited Tandy yesterday to get some tools, leather, thread, etc., to gve it a serious go. I'm lucky there's a store nearby, so I'll have to pick up the book and give it a read.

I really love the leatherwork I see here (yours included), and am gonna give it a try meself.

Thanks for the props on my 'first' work.

Jim
