My first slipjoint. A work in progress...

]I just finished my first slipjoint and thought I would post it for feedback. It is inspired by Tony Bose and his Gardener's knife and Case’s Seahorse Whittler. It is definitely rough around the edges but I can't wait to make the next one better. The blade is o1 steel and the handles are 9 layers of carbon fiber laid up in a glass pane mold. It has milled liners and the next one will have a pivot bushing also. And a stronger spring is also on the list. I would like to thank Chris Crawford for his video on knife making, Ken Erickson for letting me hold one of his amazing knives at the Blade show and Tony Bose for inspiration and sharing information online.
Let me know what you think….
Nathan

Thank you for the kind words. It is very exciting to see something take shape....I wish I started doing this long ago.

A very well made knife! You made a great job on that one... Congratz!

Kind regards
Andi

When I first saw it I thought it was quite odd looking but appealing at the same time. The long handle and short blade look like they would work well for both fine finish work like whittling but still with enough back bone to cut heavy bailing twine also. Although I still find it a little odd looking I find myself coming back to look at it.:)

Its got a very different shape to it that's for sure but it is a very neat knife and the craftsman ship is superb.

Thank you all again. I will keep you posted on updates or new designs as time allows. I really like this subforum. Nathan

Great job, you may have a future in custom slipjoints:thumbup: How about a sodbuster pattern for your 2nd:D

I thought about a sodbuster on the way home tonight and maybe even a cotton sampler.....I just made up a pair of pivot bushings so I have to do something soon. I would like to refine the design above a little bit more. I need to work on the action and the lockup. I have been "testing" it the past few days and I really like how it handles. It is also really light and thin, so much so I have to keep checking to make sure I have not lost it. Much lighter than my normal carry russlock.

Nathan, have you posted this up in the Workshop subforum? There are some great makers over there that would give you some great feedback.
