I spent all last week in a class for Slipjoints. John Perry was the instructor and we had a total of three students. One was Scott Kiser from Tennesee, along with Arthur Lynn from New Mexico, and myself. It was a great time! I think this class is one of the few of it's kind. What a privilege to have gotten to attend!

Our project knife was a two blade Trapper in the 4 1/4 inch length. We actually intended to have two knives made by the end of the week, but will have to finish the second one at home. Here is the first one:

The class was in Old Washington, Arkansas. I highly recommend it. Lin

Absolutly Beautiful Lin.
Looks like you have been making them for years.

Great photo too Chuck.

Wow Lin. Once you start making more of them, put one aside for me. A forged one with stag handles and fine satin finish.

Good looking, looks as if you have been doing a long long time, your next ones need to be in for sale forum, so I can grab one.

Better stick to fixed blades bubba.

HAHAHA! Just josh'n 'ya Lin... That folder is FANTASTIC!

I'm very jealous. I would have loved to taken that class. John is definitely a great choice for such a class. I'm hoping I can sneak away from work to spend some time with my buddy Mike Vagnino as he is also very good in this area.

What a great start to what I'm sure will be many more.

Great stuff my friend! :D

Beautiful trapper, you should show it to the guys over at the "traditional" forum. You'll get some fans over there for sure!

That is just beautiful.
I, for one, would be very happy if you plan on starting to invest your time making slipjoints, and I bet you would have a pretty steady market with the "folksy" people.

This folder looks great, I'm impressed to hear it's your first go at a slipjoint.
How do you like making these little ones compared to big fixed blades? :)

Really handsome knife, Lin.

Is it really that easy?:) I wouldn't expect any less from you.

Looking forward to seeing #2.

Bob

Thanks guys. :)

I forgot to list the materials. I guess it "slipped" my mind:D

Yes, its Micarta (ivory), the blades and springs are ATS-34 and the bolsters are Stainless. We completely stock removed this one, as I'm sure most do. It was tedious getting the springs right in all the blade positions. This one has half stops, by the way. Its not absolutely perfect, but I'm happy with it. The principles behind the construction and some of the tricks for better fit and finish unique to folders are the main thing I wanted to take from the class.
I would like to take this information and eventually offer a single blade 3 3/4 inch folding hunter with a carbon blade and sheath. We'll see.
