My first slipjoint *pics*

After a loooong time of finding a few minutes here and there between other projects and remaking the spring (that never happens, right?) I finally finished my first slip joint. It's far from perfect and there are a few things that annoy me about it but overall I'm pretty pleased. I chose to keep it "simple" for my first and I did not relieve the liners or use washers which led to my biggest problem, mistake, however you want to word it. I discovered after peening the pivot and sanding flush that my tang or scales or both were not perfectly parallel as evidenced by the failure of the blade to snap shut all the way and scratches high on the tang where they could only be made as the blade closed between the scales. I was forced to loosen the pivot slightly but as I stated I had already ground the pivot flush so now the pivot does not blend with the washer and sits slightly below. Like I said, annoying. And lessoned learned about getting the action perfect before moving on. Now it opens and closes smoothly with a great snap. Special thanks to John Lloyd for cutting the nick for me! Did you really think I did that!?!

Anyway, here are photos and I can post a video of the action if anyone is interested. If anybody has any advice on the pivot I'm all ears. I've considered drilling it out and starting over or just sanding the scales down some more and flushing the washer and pin again. You can see the side that has it worse in the spine shot. Let me know what you think.

Nice job!
On the next ones, try using a pivot with screws. This allows tightening/loosening the blade and removing the blade for cleaning/repair. Knifekits.com has all sort of pivots and cool screws, as well as spacer washers and other folder parts. I like the"Alien" and SK-PV6 pivots/screws. Loctite blue is a good thing to put on the threads of pivot screws.
