More of a homesteading theme than a survival thing.

I made maple syrup and a bit of maple sugar last night. Actually I made 40 rounds of 303 British and Maple syrup yesterday. I felt really Canadian yesterday eh.

The sugar is so creamy it is a treat for sure!

Hope you enjoy the show.

Helped a friend make some last week, the jar he gave me had a very smoky flavour, I kind of like it.
I was going to try making taffy with it.

You're using the exact same system I use. Not ideal, but gets the job done and it's pretty cheap.
I learned from a friend of mine how he makes his sugar. He pours a jar of syrup into a cake pan and stirs it once or twice a day. I was skeptical at first, but WOW, was that easy, and if you start with a quart, you get a quart of sugar. No loss.
Only one problem though,,,, it doesn't last long.:D

I made it over a fire before but it was a long day. I used the same set up but had a small smoke stack to get the smoke away from the sap keeping the ashes out of the syrup.

I used to make maple syrup as a kid in southern Ontario. We also had an ancient apple press and made cider. I would also pick puffball mushrooms in the apple orchards in the fall and find asparagus in the spring. I miss some of that...............
