My First Small Integral

I completed this small knife to try making some integrals. Its actually made from an off-cut of 1/4inch O1 steel when I was making a much larger knife. I decided to keep it all one-piece. The finish is satin hand rubbed but with a "passive" grey etch in ferric chloride. ts just 5-3/4inch OAL. I hope this will set up some skills for future larger integrals. Any feedback welcomed. Thanks for looking. Jason.

PS.- these are actually MUCH quicker to make than a 'straightforward" blade with slabbed handles.

whats the blade length on it ?

Blade is 1-3/4inch and sharpened from 1/4inch from the ricasso. The blade is also fully hardened all the way up to the integral bolsters / ricasso. Jason.

Very cool little knife Jason. I've got some 1/4" O1 I might give something like this a try for my first fixed blade.

Looks good to me but I was wondering if the handle may be slippery when wet.

It could be... On such small knives, the knife tends to orient itself so that the thumb ends up on the SIDE of the handle rather than on the spine side of the blade, when cutting something. Hence the drilled hole design, which is quite effective. I don't generally believe it using TEXTURE to provide security in the grip. Instead I tend to rely on SHAPE and CONTOURS to provide the safe indexing on the knife in the hand. Thanks. Jason.

Jason,

That is really really nice. I aggree with you when you say that shape and contours is better that texturing for grip.
