I spent last week learning about the new "heat treat" oven. This week I started running some steel through it. I spherodized a blade that had already been annealed. I hung the blade in the chamber, dialed in 1200fh and lit the pilot. It took 15 min. to reach 1200, the temp. moved on up to 1300, I moved the set point up to 1315fh and let it soak for 11/2 hours. I moved it to the annealing chamber when the temp dropped to 1200. I took it out this evening. It was appreciably softer than when it was just annealed. If you look next to the blade on the left side you can see the thermalcouple. The temperature of the blade was 1315fh when the picture was taken.
I have the hot end of the shop finished with new exhauust for the forges and a 36" fan to move a lot of air. The press I ordered from, Ron Clainborne, should be ready for pickup around the end of July. That will finish my planned remodel. I am looking forward to getting the shop back in production. Having the new machinery will open up many new facets of the knife making process for us here at Bethel Ridge Froge. Fred
