Got the notion to crave a spoon today. Had no idea on the procedure, so just started carving. I used a Karesvando scandi and a Case scout knife. Had a piece of old Walnut with a lot of dry-rot on the outer edges. Took a little over a hour to finish. I ain't pretty but it will work. Couple of interesting things learned. First if you have never done one before. At some point you are going to be cutting towards yourself, I just do not see how you can avoid it. The point to that is safety, doing this in the field and slipping could be very dangerous and maybe fatal. So you really need to layout a plan so as to do as much cutting/carving away form you. 2- Sharp knives are a must. 3- You can remove to much wood if you are not careful. 4- Go slow and us caution.
I saved the shavings form the bowl part so as to have some small kindling, so I can try it out. tim

That's a deep spoon buddy! You can reach the bottom of pot with that one.

I like the twist in the handle, the lanyard hole in the correct position. For a neck spoon, that is.

if you continue carving up the handle you will get old Saxon spoon
