Just picked up a Carbon Fiber/ZDP-189 Stretch in a trade, should be here Saturday. This will be my first time branching out from Kershaw/ZT, and I can't wait to see what Spyderco is all about.

I am already considering picking up a Para 2 in Orange/CTS-XHP while they are still available as well. Any thoughts on either of these models? :)

Nice first Spyderco! :) Mine was a Tenacious. I don't have any experience with those models, but I highly recommend the Military.

Thanks! I am hoping someone will chime in with some commentary on them. the Para 2 is calling my name but the price tag is keeping my wallet in my pocket at the moment. I have watched many KAI limited runs come and go and really regretted it later. I am afraid it may be the same feeling if I don't get the orange Para while I can.

I think that Stretch is an excellent choice, I've had my eye on that knife for a few weeks now. Which is a very long time for a knife.... ;)

I carried a Leek for a while, then a Shallot. Tried a couple other things, then got a Para2.
It essentially hasn't left my side since.
It's tough, strong, slicey, light, ergonomic, and as good as everybody says.
What I like best are the compression lock, cutting ability, ergos, and the fact that it handles like a full-size knife but carries like a smaller one.
I got the blue one in M390 - I think the orange XHP one is every bit as good, just different.
They sold out once - I'm not sure how much longer they'll be available, so I'd definitely grab it.

I just got my first ZT this week - a used 0551 for the price of a new super-steel sprint run Para2.
It's a fabulous hunk of steel and Ti. It has amazing fit-n-finish and design, but I don't think it has anything over the Para2 sprint in that regard.
I can't say the two compare other than being very similarly sized (and priced) and performing their designated tasks very well.
I find the 0551 a little bulky and heavy for everyday pocket carry - so I still EDC the Para2. To me, it's that good.

I hope that helps.

That is saying a lot! Of the 5 ZT's I own, the 0551 is my all-around favorite. If the Para 2 is on par with that, it looks like my wallet is about to hate me just a little bit more. I can't believe I am going to get myself addicted to a 3rd brand... this obsession is starting to get out of control. :o

My first Spyderco is on the way as well. Went with the Tenacious, figured I would take baby steps and not jump into a PM2. I'll save that for next weeks pay check :D

I learned the hard way to start at the top with ZT's. I went up the food chain from a 0350 to a 0300, then 0550, 0551, and 0560. I figure it will end up being the same with any other brand. If I am going to spend the money anyway, I may as well buy the big ticket items first. :p

I had no idea orange para 2's were still in stock until that post. Just bought one! The stretch is on my short list, I think you will love it.

The Para 2 is my favorite Spyderco! I have carried a Digicam DLC Para 2 everyday for more than a year, now. Love it! I switched to the brown one with S35VN earlier this month and only today received the orange one in the mail. All I can tell you is to try one. I guarantee that you will fall in love!

Here's a couple pics of my Para 2's...

And here with two Military models, Ti and Digicam, on the left...

I love me some Military and Paramilitary Spydies!!!

You'll love the Para 2. I'm thinking about the orange PM2 as well but it's so stinkin expensive! Never cared for the look of the PM2's that much until I picked up a camp one a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it for a lightweight EDC and it's kind of nice having that really sharp tip too. And the compression lock is so sweet — you can flick the blade open and then close it just as easily.

well, i just ordered the Para 2. you guys are as bad as the Kershaw crowd!

i told myself that trading for a Spyderco wouldn't end up making me spend my ZT money on more of them, yet somehow ended up doing it before the Stretch even arrived.

Solid- you won't regret the para 2, and yes the Spyderco crowd is just as bad as the Kershaw----run away.....LOLKnives 7-26-12 011.jpgKnives 7-26-12 009.jpg

Be very afraid... spydercos are made of crack, once you get a hold of one....

You can only think of getting more!

ps dont overlook the ffg endura 4 awesome tool

thanks for posting those comparison pics, looks like it will fit nicely between the size of a 055X and 056X.

i probably should run away now. after buying my first orange kershaw, i ended up hunting down every orange model they ever made.... and getting orange scales for 3 of my ZTs. there is no way i can afford to do that with spydercos, there are waaaay to many sprint runs too keep up with.

Sorry bro! Haha.

you should be, it's all your fault! :p

Great choice on both knives! I have a PM2 and two Stretches (though mine are both just FRN). They're both excellent blades, and I'd love to get my hands on a CF/ZDP-189 Stretch down the road. They fit my hands like a glove!

Welcome to your third brand addiction! ;)

My first Spyderco was an Endura4 FFG in VG10 (last month)..It totally blew me away so I had to order the Delica4 in VG10 two days later..I'm a Spyderco addict now, and within the last two weeks my knife collection has dwindled..I've finally found my holy grail EDC knife and in my opinion the Endura4 is "Perfection"...Its close in size to the Para2 I believe?

Man I did not know CS had more orange pm2's. I just picked one up on the fourms about an hour and a half ago. Love my digi pm2, could not resist the orange. Now I need the m390 next. Also Looooove the Zt's. Gave my son my 350 for deployment to the sandbox and really miss it. Carry my 560 a lot. But the pm2 seems to be my go to edc.

Yeah, I just found out last night that CS had 'em and after much deliberation placed an order this afternoon. It sucks that they went up so much in price but I guess that's just how it works. Might pick up a blue m390 when they become available again. The 560 is a tank like the Manix 2 XL. I like the PM2 when I want to forget that I'm even carrying a knife — they're so nice and light great slicers!
