My first Spyderco! PM2 What I think

After hearing so much about spyderco knives I finally bought one. I decided on the Paramilitary 2 as my first. First let me say its bigger than I expected. Through pics and videos the blade looked smaller to me. Its still a great size for me tho. I think I see why spyderco knifes are popular now. Its just a really good looking and functional knife and pretty good quality too it looks like. Its not superb by no means but for the price.. Hard to beat. Mine unfortunately came a little stiff to open and close. Not enough where I can't open it with thumb or finger flick. (Took me a few tries to figure that out) :). I'm hoping all I have to do is adjust the screws a little. I'd like to be able to close it with one hand as well which I cannot do. Only had it a few days..think break in will fix it? Or should I try to back off the screws a tad? Anyhow I'm impressed with spyderco and already looking at the other ones :). Still looking for a small knife to add to my collection. Maybe below 3" or just above. Any suggestions?

They come stiff, and need some wear in. I've got my carry PM, and I have a couple of new ones as well. The new ones are much much more stiff.

congratulations on buying a great knife!
My Para2 was a little tight as well when I first got it. A couple of drops of oil on the pivot will help, along with lots of repetitions opening & closing.

My PM2 was also pretty stiff to open and close, but after playing with it 1 or 2 weeks it is now very smooth.
Just give it some time.

Give it time. It'll break in nicely. Once you get the hang of it, the compression lock is very easy to close one-handed.

For your next knife may I suggest the Native 5. :D

Oil did help a little bit.. It now feels less like grinding. Still a little to stiff to close one handed. It can be done but you have to whip it very fast to the point of almost losing the knife. I'm sure with more time it'll loosen up. I'll give it a week or two... There is no blade play at all which is nice.. Perfect centered

I am in another camp on breaking it in. Having bought two PM2's and a Superleaf this last year, the very first thing I did was tweak their locks. None of the three had balanced tension on the Torx screws from the factory. The big leaf was probably the best. Also don't overlook the trick of rotating the stop pin with your finger a bit before tightening if needed to achieve that buttery opening. They all were happier after just a little tuning. Absolutely love compression locks!
Of course, YMMV.
Best...

I recently got a pm2 as well, just play with it. I wore it in after only 2 days.

Native 5 is an awesome suggestion for your next blade.

My para 2 is my go to knife. If it's an out door adventure, or a late night out on the town. The para 2 is coming with.

i actually didnt really care for the PM2 tbh...i had one and sold it like 2 months later.

the pm2 is also going to be my first spyderco, i am a little bummed i couldnt find an all black one, but after not seeing one in stock at all on blade hq for about 6 months i jumped on the first one i could in the black g-10 with satin blade. Still really excited to get it and play around with it

So the newer batches are stiff out of the box? All the PM'2 that I purchased last year were all very smooth out of the box. I wonder why these newer ones are so stiff?

Yep, as do most new things. I find they break in over the years with use.
