picked up this calypso Jr of another board member and it arrived today, much sooner than expected. Having just recieved my D2 Griptillian yesterday with Calypso is nice and light in comparison, lock is solid with no blade play. Its mildy sharp right now but I was expecting that. my sharpmaker arrives next week and should take car of that. the edge is in great condition besides being a little duller than normal. I understand why so many people use these as their EDC. They are light weight and solid, love the blade shape. I like the lock back though I wish it was easier to close one handed, I'm used to the axis lock :). I also wish it was a tip up carry clip. meh, details. Besides that I think I'm really gonna like this thing, the blade and handle shape are awesome, the light weight is a big plus for basic EDC uses and carrying, I hate heavy things in my pockets. I also have a new SS PE Cricket that should arrive next week as well. I'm sure I'll be picking up many more spidies along the way as well.

Congrats on your first Spyder, very fine choice! The Calypso Jr. is pretty popular around here, the best in it's class of light-weight FRN folders IMHO.

Congrats on your first Spyderco!! You got an excellent one. I agree that the Calypso, Jr. is the best in it's class of light weight FRN folders. CONGRATS!

The Caly is my favorite. It weighs nothing and cuts everything. It is sheeple friendly to boot.

Who knows you might find the that tip down is not so bad...

Caly and Cricket...you can't go wrong.

ya..just takes gettin used to. I carried it today even though its not that sharp and one handed closing is pretty easy now with a little practice on the lockback and I'm gettin used to tip down though I think I still prefer tip up. I want my damn sharpmaker and cricket to show up. Then I think I want to order a BM 707 and a larger spyderco, thinking either para military or 80mm manix(I think the big one is just gonna be too big for my general use).....damn the addiction

I betting you will love the cricket for general cutting of things like boxes, plastic clamshells, zip ties...etc.

I have the same problem with tip up...I can use it but my hand wants to deploy how it is used to.

ya thats kinda my thought..great general use little knife, the blade shape should come in handy for that. if I really like I'll probably end up with a dodo as well.

You won't regret the Dodo my friend, and they are now extinct this year!
