Just got my Native 5, FRN, S35VN.
I love the feel and fit is awesome.
Not sure about the FRN, feels too light. Is G10 heavier? And does it feel sturdier?

I don't know how to load pics yet.

The g10 "feels" sturdier. I've whacked the frn with a hammer just to see what happens. Nothing... Basically I love the frn.

I have 2 FRN models; great EDC knives. But the G10 does feel more substantial. Get the G10 model in S110V. The FRN is a great utility knife, the G10 a more fancy EDC.

Hi kdnolin, Welcome to the sub forum. I started the other way around with the G10. The G10 is great, definitely feels sturdier. I carry my G10 versions when I wear jeans and am out and about. I prefer the lightweight FRN versions during the summer when wearing shorts, at the pool or beach, and hiking. There are many versions to choose. Give it a chance and it may well become your favorite knife.

Lol. I am already eyeing up a Mannix 2 s110v in blurple.

Sounds like the FRN will be great for EDC. I intend it to be a user....
Until the next one!

Thanks

Congratulations for your first Spyderco, kdnolin!
I don't have a Native myself, but you may be able to get custom scales you like for it.

Welcome to the sub-forum of Spydie addiction. The problem with Spyderco is that for some reason they are extremely addicting. Congress should look into this phenomenon.

I really like the FRN handles. I think you can carry a lot bigger blade and still have it not weigh down your pocket. I carry the Manix 2 LW and the Endura 4 all of the time and hardly notice that they are in my pocket.

Congrats on joining the Syderco family. It may be your first but no one can own just one.

Dems will find a way to demonize them and make a new law.

you click the "upload a file" button then select it from you local computer. If you want to share an image from the web. you would want to right click on the image Copy image address then past the URL string into the icon above the dialog box next to the smiley face.

The FRN is strong stuff- I have lots of FRN knives and they all held up. I have some scratches on a few when I used them to open beer caps. WHich I don't recommend as they will scuff it up.
If you looking to get a 110 blade just make sure your ready to sharpen it. Depending on your experience level it can be a tad frustrating and I don't think I can get it as sharp as others. Blurple is super cool color though good luck and welcome to the club!

After carrying for a couple weeks, including a camping/fishing trip, I love the knife. I will try g10 on the next one, but no complaints on the FRN.

I have a Lansky for sharpening,
Works great on the s35vn,
Will I need diamond stones for s110 v?

Congratz on your Spydie. G10 is heavier and feels sturdier, and as a person who prefers heavier and sturdier I definitely recommend it over FRNs and the like. But I recently started carrying two knives on me, and prefer the FRN on my backup/user blade because it's so light it can just disappear among everything else I'm carrying. But if you only carry one knife, then the G10 would probably have been a better option. It's still a great knife though, don't be afraid to put it to work.

Well congratulations are in order>> I so clearly remember when I got my very first Spyder back in 1995 at a Gun Show here in Kansas City, MO. It was at a vendor's booth that I had previously frequented and he had about 2 dozen Spyderco models there and I had always wanted a premium serrated edge knife so I got a stainless handled, GIN-1 full Spyderedged Mariner model. That knife served me well for a long time but later the stainless handled RESCUE model won out over the Mariner model and I even carry that Stainless RESCUE ATS-55 full SE model quite a bit at this present time.

There is something about getting your very first Spyder that really sticks with you. It sounds like you made a great pick. I've always had a ton of respect for the NATIVE model and I'm sure you'll get years of great service from it.
