Hello Everyone,
I have a few questions about a spyderco that I hope you guys can help me out with. I am currently looking to buy a Spyderco knife, now I own a lot of knives like Emersons, Cold steel, and Benchmade to name a few. Now I am looking at the Spyderco Native, or the Endura. The price is not that much of a difference so I'm looking at the steel. The Native has the s30v blade, and the Endura 4 has VG-10. I have a Benchmade with s30v and I have to say that it's a sharp knife. The knife will be used as a beater EDC, so since I've never carried a Spyderco any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tenacious. Maybe the very best value in the knife world. The only way it could be better is if it had S30V and was made in Golden.
I have the Endura 4 in VG-10 and sage G-10 and its a great knife but Tenacious in just perfect for a user IMO.

i second that. i was sent a tenacious by accident when i ordered a different item from an online dealer and fell in love with it. to bad they wanted it back:grumpy::D it is a tremendous knife, at 28$, its a steal. i would pay 60$ for it without a second thought. to me, the tenacios is like the kershaw skyline, one of the most underrated and underpriced EDC's on the market.

I'll take VG10 over S30V every time. It's always seemed to hold an edge longer for me, though I've heard people say the opposite. And I have an Endura4 myself and love it.

Despite that, with a Tenacious at around half the price of an Endura (approx. $30 vs. $60), if you're looking for something to really beat on, it's hard to argue with what's been said. The Tenacious is just a really good knife for a ridiculously low price.

Tenacious would be an excellent beater.

Past that I'd go with the Endura, or better yet a Pacific Salt. The salt has H1, which is a very tough, very very very (like no rusting at all ever) corrosion resistant steel. For a beater I'd go with the Pacific Salt because it sharpens up better, is tougher, and you can pack it away wet.

Between the Endura and Native, I would choose the Endura. I've had an Endura for about 7 months now, and it is my hard-use knife. I just got a Native last week, and I'm only mildly impressed by it. If you like choils, then it just might be your cup of tea, but I'm not a huge fan. I prefer the "thumbs-up" type of grip, and that is quite uncomfortable on the Native with its lack of thumb ramp and the hump in the handle.

I haven't really had a chance to test the steel out yet, but I know VG-10 is an awesome steel. It takes a very fine edge, keeps working for a good long while, and it sharpens up in record time. Where my ZDP E4 can be touched up in about 20 minutes to a half hour (such that there is no more shine on the edge), my Delica can be touched up in 5 to 10 minutes.

Stretch FRN VG10. Better grip, FFG blade :) The ergos are insane.

Tenacious for a nice G10 beater tho. I hear the Chinese steel holds an edge for a long time...between AUS8 and VG10/154cm!

If you live in Chicago head over to GAT Guns in Dundee or Shore Galleries in Lincolnwood and check some out. If you're in the area email me and you can try out the Tenacious, Endura, and some other rare Spydies.
Glad to help,
Preston

for a dedicated EDC that has H1, i would go for the salt 1, it is a more practical size to EDC than the pacific salt. the pacific salt is a large knife.
the tenacious, for a "beater", is still my first choice.

I have to agree with a lot of other members and say go for the Tenacious. At around thirty bucks, you can afford to have it as a beater and save up for some of Spyderco's higher-end offerings like the Military.

I like my enduras more than my Native. I think VG10 is really close to S30V in edge retention, and I like the way the endura fits in my hand and the length better than the native

I know the Delica seems ugly in pics, which is my guess why you left it out... I would seriously consider it as well... the price is right and it is an EXCELLENT knife as well! I would also keep in mind that these knives are just the tip of the iceberg as far as Spydie's quality goes. If you REALLY want to see what Spyderco CAN offer, the Paramilitary (or other G10 "Golden" Spydie) should be considered a future option. IMO!
