Well, it's been awhile since I've bought any knives. I'm pretty much interested in the folders and I have knives from other manufacturers. I have quite a few Kershaw Ken Onion SpeedSafes but I never owned a Spyderco. Well, first I bought the Polliwog for EDC at work (company frowns on carrying big pocket knives) and I must say I am very impressed with it. It opens and closes easily one handed, I really like the ball bearing lock and I get a lot of "can I see that" comments. So naturally I did some looking around and picked up two more Spydies, the D'Allara drop point and the Native 3D. I love the D'Allara for it's smooth opening and closing as well at the ballbearing lock, I really like the Native III too...but, it takes a bit more effort to open and close. I like the way it feels in my hand and I would like to use this for an EDC outside the workplace but the stiff opening and closing has made me decide to leave it in the drawer. I will be carrying the D'Allara. Well anyways, I am impressed with the quality of the Spyderco knives, I remember seeing them years ago and thought that they were just some sort of gimmick with the hole in the blade and all, but now I wish I had bought some sooner. Needless to say, I'm looking at some more. I want to steer away from the models that are stiff to open/close and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with other models that have this problem. Also, is there any way to make the opening/closing smoother on the Native III? I guess I'll have to sit around and open/close it to get it worn in and maybe it will smooth out. Spyderco makes some great knives.

i may be wrong , but the native will loosen up with use , and then you`ll love it for EDC.

Congrats on your purchases! I wanna get a D'allara sometime, lloks very nice. Heard good stuff about the poli waswell. As far as the native, just use it a bit and let it loosen up up a bit. I love my N1 BB, very comfortable and easy to open and close one handed. The ATR is a really nice knife, VERY comfortable and it opens and closes like silk. Just know that its a little beasty, but I love it.

Hi pkdmslf

After some months of use your Native 3 will open up on ease of use. In the beginning a few drops of Militec or Tuff Glide will help the opening and closing process. Just give it a try. It want let you down It's a great edc.

So remember don't leave it in your drawer!
Take care

Thanks for the inputs. I took it up to the mountains last week for a hunting/camping trip. Actually got to use it several times. I really like this knife (Native III PE) and it is starting to loosen up a little in the opening and closing. I have big hands and this bad boy fits it perfectly. I liked these first Spydercos I bought so much that I ordered a C79PSBK Assist to have in my truck and Santa Fe Stoneworks Delica (Black Jet w/MOP inlay). Supposed to arrive today as a matter of fact. Can't wait to see em'! I think I feel an addiction coming on. My wife ain't gonna like that.

Spydercos are more an addiction than a collection. I bought 4 this week, after not buying any knives for a while. I bought the Manix, the Ocelot, the Volpe, and the UKPK. Man, I wish I could quit spending money...:D

Well, I got my new Spyderco's yesterday from NGK. (Great service by the way). The Santa Fe Stoneworks Delica is a beauty. I fondled it for about an hour before putting it away. Even the wife was impressed with it. As for the Assist, it's a pretty awesome tool. Larger than I expected from looking at the picture on the website. I love the handle on this baby, the blade opens smoothly and has some heft to it. This bad boy will be in my truck all the time. Well, let's see now, in the past 2 or 3 weeks I've aquired 5 new Spydercos and I'm looking at another one or two already! I think I'm in trouble now. Gotta have more!
