I got my first spydie today. I picked up a progrip at Cabelas. I went in there just looking and came out $50.00 poorer. I like the knife and everyone seems to rave about spyderco. It seems solid, shiny, and sharp. The demo model was dull, not shiny and didn't really get my fluids flowing, but the new one in the box...........Wow!!! Scarry sharp, shiny as a new quarter and Solid as a rock. I am starting to see what you are all talking about. Probably my first of many. Should have stayed out of there. Later Dtsoll

Congratulations!! I have several Spydies and I can tell you that once you get bitten by this particular "Spyder" you will never quite get rid of the bug. Sorry for the puns. :D :D

The Spydie bug takes a toll...
Normally, it takes a lot of work before a Spydie gets that dull. I suspect the display piece that you saw have been around for years ;)

Got my first one last week and love it! (it's a Navigator btw)
Built like a tank.:D

pay attention to my sig... beleive the first line of it will help you're future knife purchases... It's your fate now.

Thanks Guys,
Trane_fan, my next spydie is on the way. It is the engraved dragonfly. I believe the next one will be a Ti Salsa. Can't get it out of my mind. Something about that little bugger has me all dialed in. dtsoll

You’re finished, Man! :D
SpyderBug doesn’t bit everyone, but if it bites – it bites deadly ;)
Btw, nice selection although turned somewhat onto small knife side. Please take a careful look onto their flagship – Military.

You can’t go wrong with this knife even if it is not allowed for concealed carry in your localization. I also do not carry mine in publics (although here is no limitations at this matter), it is simply too big for urban carry. But it is excellent cutter and makes ultimate outdoors and around household folder.
Don’t forget also their best seller Delica – excellent lightweight working daily carry knife.

It is moderately priced and more than likely you wouldn’t hesitate to put it in real use. Very easy to carry on daily basis, you recall you have it only when you need it.

Since you have been bit by the Spyder bug, I would go right out today and order a Spyderco Navigator from SMKW. They are on sale for $29.99!

Easyrider,
I went to SMKW or Eknife, I believe they are the same. Thanks for the heads up. That is an excellent price. Do you have one of these? I tend to take to smaller knives because I am a custodian at a middle school and sheeple are abundant there. I pulled out a schrade 897uh (very small stockman) to cut some string out of a vacuum brush. A boy said Hey, you can't have weapons here. Gotta keep a low profile. Although my boss knows I carry. Just can't advertise. thanks for the forum. dtsoll:D :D

As a 57 year old who has been carrying a pocket knife from the age of eight or so, stories like this make me sick to my stomach. Even tho' I've heard'em dozens of times.

On a lighter note, how does the Spyderco "1st Generation" Native, with 440A blade, stack up to the stainless handled native with AUS10 blade?

Dstoll, I do indeed have one of the Spyderco Navigators from SMKW/Eknife and I really like this little fella. When I ordered it the person on the phone said it had the older blade steel. For $30 who cares? Well it turned out to be VG-10 blade steel! I've been thinking about getting a couple more, they make great birthday,Christmas, ect. presents!

I bought the Worker when it first came out, read about it in a knife magazine,(I think it was blade), everyone I knew called stupid for buyin a knife with a hole in it, but they all thought the clip was OK.

Fast forward 18 years or so, I currently have 8 or 9 in my stash of knives, I'll always own Spydercos, they are well worth your money, and ya can't beat their Customer Service.

Dstoll, you probably remember me
responding to you on the Spyderco.com forum ; let me put it
this way : I've go about $2,000 "invested" in Spydies from :

GlassHartt@aol.com

I mean, I could be sticking needles in my arm(s), "hittin'" a "crack pipe" or "the bottle";). I consider the Spydie "habit" tame by comparison. Hell, gambling & the stock market are even worse than ANY of the aforementioned "addictions"!

AET ;)

AET,
I have seen quite a few fellow spydieites over here. I'm glad we can all just get along. I have taken 5 days off over Christmas break so I have been all over the forums, tomorrow its back to work:grumpy: so i'll be slowing my forum viewing to once a day. Have a nice day!

ichor: I know it's disgusting that people made comments like that.
Those 1st Gen. Native's fit and finish ain't great. I'd say away from them.

The 1st Gens are very substandard. I was in a store in SC recently and they had the 1st Gens in a display case with a price of about $20.00 a pop. In another case they had the real Native and they were much more expensive. The dealer said that they were trying to get rid of the 1st Gens ASAP due to the fact that they were basically POC.
