Woo hoo my Chaparral in FRN got here. Soon as I picked it up it did strike me as classy, I think it must be the build or something. It just an instant feel of uniqueness. Shaving sharp and the size and weight is exactly what I was hoping for in this purchase. You can literally sleep with this in your pocket and not know it's there. You never really know how something is gonna feel by watching YT clips and reading reviews so super happy it worked out as expected. High likelihood I am going to end up throwing some jeans in the washing machine and forget there's a knife in the pocket.

I certainly haven't got the hang of opening with the Spydy hole yet. This knife is probs too small to ever get that Spydy flick experience, I am not worried about that as I bought a Kershaw fidget knife with the money I saved by getting FRN.

I think in reflection getting two vastly different knives for the price of one knife with fancy scales was well worth it in this case plus I had left over dimes for coffee.

I thought I would regret not getting a compression lock for my first Spyderco because in my mind;

compression lock + Spydy hole = Spyderco.

Gives me something to look forward to for my next purchase which will either be in the manix or native range or a police 4.

I thought no liners and FRN would mean you could pinch the scales together it's pretty solid. Will definitely get the next purchase in FRN and add another fidget knife from Kershaw or get an almaar falcon which really does it for me.

Let my know your long term use chaparral stories, preferably in FRN.

Your going to really like the blade steel XHP , I also like FRN over G-10

Depends on the model. Smaller thicker handles FRN knives are pretty solid but the manix i have in FRN you can damn near touch the sides on the scales by squeezing them together when the blade is open. It has so much flex its laughable.

Congrats wait till you find the "you" model in spyderco!

For me the military , shaman , and manix just fit perfect! (For me)

The Chaparral has liners - they are smaller, and nested inside each FRN scale. If you have a flashlight, you can angle some light and see them sitting in the scales.

Congrats on your first Spyderco.

Don’t be surprised if your Chaparral isn’t really amenable to the spydieflick. I don’t think mine ever will be.

I really like Spyderco’s FRN. I have a few Delicas and I’m on my second PacSalt. No complaints whatsoever.

The Manix 2LW uses a different material, FRCP. I don’t know the structural differences, but IMO the FRCP feels kinda cheap to the touch...but it works fine and I really like the model regardless.

Regarding XHP, it’s one of my favorite steels. It gets wicked sharp, easily, and holds an edge longer than it should.

I like that, holds an edge longer than it should, that's funny ,yet true.

I like my Chap so much I don’t even plan to replace the Delica I recently gifted to my son in law.
My folder of choice has progressively gotten smaller over the years until I settled on 3” or slightly under, so I’ve been constantly looking to add knives of that size trying to find “the one”, and the Chaparral even put an end to that hunt. The only thing I felt needed changing was the clip…back right pocket is my preference, so I always manage to tweak wire clips.
