We found both of them safe and sound about 0430 this morning. They were huddled together sleeping in the middle of an old logging road. The girls had went off hiking by themselves around 1900 saturday and never came back. The temperature dropped below 50 degrees F this morning. Pretty cold for two barefoot 12 year olds wearing shorts! Anyway the girls were not upset and didn't appear shakin up or scared lol. Infact they were shocked that the Sheriff's Department, State Police and three fire departments came out to search for them. Anyway I was glad that this one had a happy ending:thumbup:

Great job and glad to see the girls were okay.

How many people were involved with the search? That was a pretty quick mustering!

Great job!

I find it interesting that the girls figured out the body heat thing... Did either of them have any training?

We had about 45 people seaching on foot and on four wheelers, the State Police had about 10 Troopers there with helicopter and a bloodhound. Myself and one other deputy were interviewing family and other campers.

Other than being a couple of country girls from WV no. The thing that surprised me was how calm and collected the girls were.

I read in a book once, I cannot remember which one, that childen are more likely to survive in scenarios such as this versus adults.

The author pointed to something about lack of ego and expectations leading to less panic and therefore a better survival mindset.

Thanks for the info and good job again!

I read something about this as well. They also don't have many of the preconceived notions that are developed as adults about crawling into a pile of leaves or getting dirty and such. It's just a natural thing for them (remember playing in the mud and jumping into leaf piles as a kid?).

I think in general that kids would more readily crawl into a pile of leaves for warmth and not think about the creepy crawlies that may be in there vs. adults who may have developed their personal phobias towards bugs, getting dirty, etc.

Great job on finding the girls.
