Here it is! I started out simple.....
View

This is my first attempt using Deloro's Stellite 6K. The knife is my Small Game model featuring a 2 3/4" blade from 1/8" stock with a tapered and drilled tang. The handle is maroon linen Micarta with red and white spacers. I wanted it to be a user but added the mosaic pin to give it a little PIZAZZ!!
So far I REALLY like working with the Stellite. Although it looks very dark in the scan the knife actually has a rather shiny 600 finish on it. It's slightly harder to cut, drill and grind than Talonite but, so far, seems to finish better.
I have 3 more of my Small Tac/Utility models blanked out from my first Stellite bar. One of the knives I will keep for myself to do some testing and evaluation on.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs compared to my standard D2 and Talonite.
I know I've said this before but....to date, this is THE sharpest knife I have EVER made!! However......After putting the initial edge on it, I THINK that Talonite MAY be easier to field sharpen???

PS I will have some 35mm shots of this knife over the weekend. The scan does NOT do it any justice

Cool knife, Neil. I will be back in the saddle in two months...

Neil, I like that. You ever do any trading? I got this knife from a FL maker. Since mines been used and has nicer scales, I won't need any boot. lol

Very nice knife Neil. I've admired your knives for some time now, they look well made and your style is simple and attractive.

However, there are a couple of things I don't like about this knife. I like the blade shape and the integral guard, and the curves on the handle are nice, but the rather angular butt looks pretty strange to me. Perhaps the long flattened area at the back is a good place to apply pinkie leverage, I dunno. But based purely on line and form, I would pass on that knife. That butt point just doesn't look right on that knife (IMO).

The second thing that turns me off about All of your knives is the large BLACKWOOD logo on the blades. I really don't like designer labels or really big text on tools. Seriously, if your logo was smaller, and did not distract my eye from the line and form of your beautiful knives, I'm sure I would already have one.

Just my opinion. No offense intended.

Niel, nice looking knife. I like most of the models you make, but have to agree with para on this one, the angled end of the handle looks a bit out of place.

I gotta disagree with para on the logo though...I think it looks pretty cool myself.

How does stellite compare with talonite in price?

UPDATED and REVISED

Jim,
Hey, I remember that knife! I have one just like it only mine has Micarta scales!
Para,
The Small Game is a SMALL knife. You have no choice where to put your pinky on this one, it rides comfortably on the angled part of the handle!! This area is also rounded on the underside, not squared off. If fits nice between the hand and first pinky knuckle!! The handle is VERY comfortable and the overall knife handles VERY well. I've used them on a variety of small game all the way up to deer and hawgs (hogs)

I appreciate the suggestions regarding the size of my logo's. DONE DEAL!!!! My logos are done using a sandblast process through a photomask. It goes into the steel deeper than acid etching and is MUCH clearer. Picking a font that works well with this process is NOT easy. I have managed to find several decent looking fonts that I can reduce smaller and will actually start using them tomorrow.
Richard,
Stellite is slightly less expensive than Talonite to purchase. I really can't go by the price per pound costs!! Talonite comes with a rough but workable finish. Stellite comes "as rolled" with a TOUGH A$$ED scale on it that I had to surface grind to remove. At this time, after working with it, I would put Stellite above Talonite by a slim margin.
Thanks for the response guys!
Neil
