Don't get me wrong the knife is amazing but after appending a few hours with her at home I'm starting to think she is just to BIG. Like all my knifes I intended to use the hell out of this one and I can tell she would be a glutton for punishment for years to come but man is she a beast! I've wanted a big folder for some time but I'm not so sure I want it to be my first Strider. Perhaps someone can help convince me that I've either made the right choice or that I will indeed be happier selling her to get an SNG.

Thoughts?

the more you handle it the smaller it will start to feel, you'll use the choked up grip most often i find and the knife feels really manageable. i didn't want a big knife and don't like big knives for edc folders but after getting an SMF i wouldn't want anything smaller, i think an SNG's actually feel too small with the choked up grip. trust me, keep it, you'll love it, it'll get nice and smooth and seem to shrink in no time! oh and your photos arent showing!

This is what I have become a custom to. Although It's been a great knife it has meet its match on a few recent tasks hence the choice to go Strider.

Pity - my first Strider was an SnG Lego but I found it to be too small. She's gone now - I have 2 SmFs and an AR frame lock and never looked back.

I think that hand size has a lot to to with how big the knife appears in hand - I lean towards 4"+ blades and 5"+ handles so I actually think the SmF is on the medium side. I debated for some time over getting the XL model but the increase in cost just didn't seem to match up with the increase in size/materials.

I recommend you use it for a little while - the double choil gives you the opportunity to choke up on the knife for better control. Put it in your edc rotation and give it a run around the track.

I realized that I wasn't really giving new knives a fair chance - selling/trading them before even breaking them in - and then realizing after a while how I missed that particular model only to have to buy another one.

For me, I prefer the build of the SmF. It's an EXCELLENT knife. The Reasons I'm on my 5th SnG & sold my SmF are carry size (it can be a bit uncomfy to squat with in the pocket) and the handle size. I have XL hands & the choils & their spacing are a little larger than i prefer. I find the SnG Lego to be perfect and the SnG CC to be toooo slim.

Those aren't too big.

Try carrying a 5" Cold Steel folder for a while, or even something like the Spyderco Military.

I borrowed my girlfriends full size benchmade onslaught which is actually larger but does not feel as big as the SMF. I would imagine that the same knife with DGG would prob feel perfect. If there is anyone out there with one even use slightly I like to talk about swap

I'm curious to know what tasks the Emerson couldn't handle. What are you using your folders for?

I used it a few months ago to level a low spot in a run of dolly track for a shot that was supporting a 2,300 lb fisher dolly and Arri Alexa. Yes we had no other choice of leveling device. When the sun is about to dip behind a hill you gotta do what you gotta do to get the shot. Fortunately production paid for the ruined knife.

Hey Chicken taxi, it sounds interesting, but I have no clue. :) Glad it worked for you, though.

Lego is in regards to the boxier (like a lego brick) geometry of the components that make up the handle V.S. the Strider CC or DGG which are thiner and convex

I would suggest you to take a look on ZT knives, they made many excellent tactical-looking folder at great priced.
