My first sub hilt

Bruce:

Awesome as usual!!! I had the pleasure of seeing this knife first hand at the Eugene show. Great job Bruce. Hope to see you soon.

That's a beautiful knife Bruce.

How long did you have to wait on the sheath? The Severe brothers have a long waiting list for there saddles.Last time I talked to them they only took orders in January for the year.

nice Knife Bruce
and you hid the barrel real well on this one too,, :)
nice sheath too but IMHO it looks a little too factory for me, but that's just my taste :footinmou :o

A very nice design; I like the ergonomic blade shape. I've a quick question on how you finished the hafting: did you use blind pins to secure the handle components while you were sanding, polishing ect..? mount them on a temporary tang of some sort for the work?? I'm always curious because that finish is what sets the MS apart from the rest of the makers for the most part... I'm always out to learn something.

While all large sub-hilts look a little intimidating, I think this might be the MOST intimidating one I've seen to date. It looks ready to jump, doesn't it?

Very nice.

A very graceful and elegant big fighter. Looks to be super-quick. I like it a lot.

Thanks Guys! I knew you would figure out there is no barrel on this one. Maybe next time. :)

Tonym, The Severe brothers are the best saddle makers around here anyway but Robin is a friend and will make a sheath or two for me between jobs.

Dan, I think its the machine stitching. Most of Robins sheaths are hand stitched and I also prefer that but its still better than I can make. I really like the kangaroo leather lanyard and tie loop and rawhide turks head slides.

Mitch, good question. The tang is full length and threaded for the swivel. The parts are all milled to fit the tang with no alignment pins. Pretty good fit with very little wobble while grinding but a drop of super glue held it together stiff while grinding and sanding. That dang sub hilt got in the way and I had to dissasemble a hundred times. I may not do another sub hilt for a while. The final sanding was done after it was epoxied together.

the lanyard and tie loop and the rawhide turks head slides do look nice :)

Bruce, that knife is awesome! We can clearly see why you qualify as a Mastersmith. Beautiful work, both knife and sheath.

Thats a fine Sub-H ya got there, Bruce! Like Mark says: Needs a barrel! Heck, a knife that size, and you could put a 45 cal. on it!!!
