I bought my first SAK today, the HIKER. I am just excited and had to tell somebody.

SAKs are one of the best knife values around. I own several an soon so will you.

They are great. I got a Victorinox Waiter for Christmas. I've used that thing so dang much. It's my favorite.

congratulations,
SAKs are very good and handy. I have traveler and handyman. I EDC them for several years even after I bought Leatherman

Saks are very useful knives. I bet it won't take long till you won't leave home with out your hiker.

Some people put the swiss army knives down. But they are very useful knives. I am a Tinker fan. Recently purchased a silver "Soldier" that is real nice. Sleak design and no nub on the end to wear out your pockets.

its kinda sad, i own a buck 110, timberline Zanbezi, Columbia chimney rock knife, and several other folders, but i don't own a SAK.
Is something wrong with me?

Buy one; a practical one for everyday use. I carried a Tinker for years. It made many a trip through airport security until 9-11. I'd loose it and I'd replace it. The only reason I can see not to own a Swiss Army knife is if you view knives as a defensive weapon only. Hence, Swiss Army knives don't really qualify. But they are great day to day knives for those little chores that we all have from opening mail, boxes, opening the pain in the butt packaging from stores, unscrewing screws on a computer, trimming insulation off a wire, cutting rope or string etc.; I even have used it for field chores associated with hunting small game.

Nice buy, the Hiker is a good model.
Check out a Camper. It's the same, only it has a corkscrew instead of that blasted philips driver.
And get your hands on a Spartan some time, too. It's one layer thinner, since it doesn't have the saw, but that makes it a perfect urban edc.
For me, the Hiker is nearly the perfect SAK.... but the Camper is the perfect SAK. For an excursion to the woods, that is.
For bumming around town, a thinner one with no saw is ideal (I don't use the saw when I'm hanging around in a local tavern, for example, or playing poker at a friend's house).
Also, check out the SAKs that Wenger makes. They're of equal quality, and also have some great tool configurations. Sometimes they're a little less expensive, too. Victorinox actually bought the company when Wenger took a big hit after 9/11 (sales dropped) so that they wouldn't go out of business (Vic did it for historical reasons, and to preserve the competition). Wenger still operates like an independent company, however, and manufactures its own, distinct products.

Peace.
Alex.

We all fight about this occasionally but I'd stick with Victorinox over Wegner anyday as far as quality. I haven't heard if they (Wegner) are better since Vic bought them yet or not.

And, like I've said a hundred times, no matter what custom folder I'm carrying that day you can bet that I've also got my Super Tinker in my pocket too. I went with the Tinker because of the Phillips Screwdriver but it's so smooth it strips/spins on heads a lot more than the one in my Wave does. A hardened and unchromed tip would be nice. Maybe I'll go back to my Climber eventually since the screwdriver is the main difference.
