My first tactical piece and it's baby brother

A buddy sent me some drawings on some blade shapes he liked so that is how these two blades came to be. I'm not super fond of the curved blade and copious belly but I'm pretty proud of how they came out. These are both from a 12" bar of o1 tool steel and tested out at 58 rhc. I've never shaped a handle like the micarta handle before. I had planned on doing it in more of an organized pattern but that didn't work out. Any tips on that?

Please give me your thoughts!

I don't see anything wrong with the scales, and I dig the "baby brother." Good-looking work.

Very cool I like them a bunch!

Guess I won't be getting my grinder back! LOL.

Keep up the great work.

Wow! I really like the looks of both a lot. If you could please put up the drawings for the two knives because Id like to try to make something similar. Thanks!

Nah, Jim. No plans to surrender your old rough draft of a grinder. Although it's not quite up to par with the work you do now, it's earned a special place in my heart and definitely has me looking forward to getting out and grinding WAY more than that POS hf grinder ever did. You know I wouldn't be where I am as a maker without you, buddy. Thanks.

Turbodog10, I'll be sure to show you what I do with the inspiration you've given me. Much like yourself I'm very new to knifemaking, but have had no one to show me the ropes. In the near future I still plan to have my own blades to show that I've made anyway. Any start up tips you could offer would be very nice.
Thanks

As far as start up tips go, by far the best thing that happened for me was getting in touch with someone who was able to be over my shoulder and show me how to get better results with each step of the knife making process.

You already said you don't have someone to show you the ropes but that begs the question: have you asked??? It was 3 months before Jim McGuinn saw my post and responded, but it was well worth the wait. He lives 4 blocks from me so I was able to head over there many evenings and get work done. I don't know if you'll be as lucky but you'd be silly not to ask.

Last week, I met a small group of men that make knives together that aren't active on blade forums. I'm looking forward to doing some work with them very soon . I mention that to suggest that you get the word out that you're into making knives and then keep your eyes and ears wide open. I've been surprised at how many people are into this craft- and I've never met a single person that didn't want to open their shop to a novice who wants to learn.
