Nice and functional looking! Is that a bottle opener at the end? Sort of reminds me of Tom Krein's stuff

I like it alot. Good on you mate.

Thank You ,You are the 284th viewer and only two comments about it , I think it takes a while to get noticed here or maybe its a bit close to being a copy of another knife but it has simple lines and easy to make for a first off.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but the knife looks like a the new knife in the CRKT line up. Did you make it titanium? Cool!

The back end does look like Kreins Dogfish neck knife but that could be a result of necessity of design rather than intentional copying. I mean how many ways can you design a bottle opener? Do you sell those? I bet folks would buy those up flat out like a lizzard drinking.( Always like to use that phrase):D

Truth is I still have a full time job fixing all the metal parts on planes, I mostly hand filed the whole knife because Titanium does not like to be ground on a belt much and it kills a belt in no time at all. My brother in-law has put in a order for one but it will be for his birthday.I normally only make a knife I would like to have because most of the custom knives are out of my price range or the Australian customs would frown on the ones I would like to buy.
I have been making ,tempering, polishing my own knives ,punches, chisels since I was 18 (60 now). Maybe I will start making them for sale when I retire or get a offer I can`t refuse.:)

Whats the Rc on the titanium? I've heard it only gets into the 40's and its pretty hard to grind and form an edge.

Not sure Uncle but I will take it to work and put it in the hardness tester for you.I am off work now untill next Monday so it will be a while before I can get back to you.
You can`t see it very well in the photo but it has a double edge all done by hand ,Filed ,220 grit paper ,400 grit paper ,800 grit paper,800 with oil then stropped .
Not done a lot of testing on it to see how long the edge lasts .;)
What do you think of the sheath I made for it ?
Totaly diffrent from the norm.Pressed Aluminium front and clear polycabon rear.Picture was taken before I had finnished the knife.

I love that design for a neck knife. It's interesting that you used aluminum one side instead of a kydex sheath. What was your reason for using titanium? I have heard it works very well for dive knives and it is non-magnetic so the SEAL team uses titanium knives around magnetically detonated mines. I'd be curious to see how it holds an edge when doing light cutting.

P.S. I love the bottle opener handle.

When you work on aircraft every thing you use must be traceable right back to the manufacturer, there were two pieces of 1/8 Titanium 12" X 15" that some one forgot to put the info on and was going in the bin ,I took it home and decided to make somthing out of it,no other reason,I have cut some 550 cord and shaved soft pine with it and it still shaves ok.
The sheath,I had those materials at hand ,ordered some kydex to try yesterday.

I think this tells the story........yours might not have any holes in it and is made from ti with a wrapped handle but the design is Tom's. :thumbdn:

If you're going to make something like that and post pictures on an Internet forum, at least give credit where credit is due.....

CRKT advertising from their catalog... said:
Tom Krein is a young custom knifemaker who has created quite a stir with his Mid Tech Dogfish neck knife. It seemed like the perfect affordable CRKT production knife, so here it is. Tom has a great sense of style, so unlike many skeletonized flat blades, the Dogfish™ is graceful, gives a secure grip, and also has that dogfish face at the pommel which turns out to be—a lanyard hole and bottle opener!

Been waiting for a post like this to crop up,you forgot to mention that mine is also 2"`s longer than Tom`s  I have not made mention of Tom But I have not claimed the design in any of my posts either,I am not going to get into any long winded arguments about it with any one including GOLD members. One thing I forgot to mention was when I first started making this knife i asked the question ,will I get flack from members for posting pictures and I was told to email Tom , I did that and sent a picture along with all the specs , he never came back to me so I think I covered my butt most ways if I have broken any rules then I am sure some one will point them out to me as well.

If you've been waiting for this moment, then evidently you know you're out of line, IMO.....:barf:

Gold memership has NOTHING to do with this......it makes no difference who speaks out about this rip-off of design/ideas. There will be no long-winded arument on my part......YOU'RE WRONG, end of story! :jerkit:

Tom makes/designs knives FULLTIME for a living and if you didn't hear back from him, maybe you should have waited or tried again......he's probably making some more of his 'Dogfish'.

Don't worry about me......I'm sure you'll find support from those who see nothing wrong with 'your' knife......"all these knife designs have been made before". :foot:

Been around for a while.

Let's just say I have more respect for folks who give credit where it is due.

Closing this thread since I do not see much good coming from further discussion.
