Hi I'm new to this forum, and my first purchase. After many hours of research and many many web site's I picked the Wild Rose Frontier Pipe Hawk from the wild Rose Trading Co. I should receive it by Christmas, I've been a knife nut since my 1st. Randall Bowie at age 15 in 1959 for $50. I have paid more for a custom knives, for a first purchase of $$$$.$$, for a tomahawk. Please give me some feedback to let me know how crazy I am.

The question that you should ask yourself is: What do you want from your hawk?
It looks like you chose a collectors item for your first hawk, something you can display with pride. That is one use.
By way of comparison, my 3 hawks cost less than $30 apiece. They will be used for throwing, chopping kindling and pounding nails and tent stakes. In other words , they are beaters.
If by some chance you would use a $1000+ custom hawk as a beater, then maybe your sanity could be questioned. But still its your money and your hawk to use as you see fit.

if you look at the number of hours it takes to put together a hawk like that, you're not crazy at all....wild rose (who does the forging of the head btw?) dressed hawks are definitely prized collectors' items...I wish I could afford them when they were cactus rose collaborations....

Nice buy you have there. I paid to have a quality one custom made, but I fully intend on using it as well. Makes no sense to me to pay for something I'll never use. *shrug*

You cannot go wrong with something from Chuck Burrows (aka wildrose)

I wish I had half of his historical knowledge.

Anything that comes from Chuck will be an heirloom, and fully functional.
Great choice on your purchase. I'm sure you will be thrilled.

Hi David, you are not crazy my friend. I have a few of Chuck's collaborative pieces and I am very satisfied. If you do a search on this site you will find some very interesting work by Chuck aka Wild Rose. I am attaching a view of a Cactus Rose piece I recently purchased from Chuck. I'll let him jump in with the details. I know you will be very pleased :D with your purchase.

Hi David & welcome to these forums. You'll learn a lot here and make some good friends along the way!

I know how you feel taking a step like this. Soliciting feedback like you're doing is a good move. You can't go wrong in dealing with Chuck and Wild Rose Trading Co.

My own experience with Chuck over the past 2-3 years and numerous projects has been 100% positive. His command of history, knowledge of historical artifacts, experience using a broad range of techniques both old and new, attention to detail and straightforward business practices are a reflection of both his talent and his good character.

I'm sure you'll be well satisfied and I hope you'll return here and let us know how it all turned out after you receive your Wild Rose Frontier Pipe Hawk.

Buddy Thomason

Thanks Buddy for the postative feedback. Now the only problem I have is waiting three more months for it to get here.
