Today I got an unbelieveable deal on a brand new in package SOG fusion tactical tomahawk in the polished finish [$22 OTD!!!], so I had to take it. I'm picturing that it will mainly spend most of its time in the trunk of my car, yo be used to either help get my car out of a ditch/being stuck, or potentially to help get someone out of a car accident. It could be used for other similar extraction or excavationg type activities. I supposse I might even take it camping at some point.

Overall, how did I do?

When I go to sharpen this, what would be the ideal angle to sharpen it at?

Are there any recomended mods I can/should do to this? any directions/tutorials?

Is there anything else I need to be aware of with this particular tomahawk?

Thanks in advance!

I snapped the handle in less than a day.

It snapped off below the Steel section that goes around it at the top.

I would not use the handle to lever anything but the head is pretty robust..

I just got the full sized model. I taped the handle portion with black hockey tape and threw it about 100 times. There was some wiggle with the head that started to deform the metal band. This must be from each impact because I cannot wiggle the head by hand. I think I might re-tape the handle with leather baseball tape and sharpen the beard. Overall I am happy with it, and you got quite the steal at $22.

I got the Fasthawk for $20 last year. I've thrown my, very hard, into a dead Black Locust tree, hundreds of times. I've seen it stick, hit handle first, bounce in weird ways, and have only had the metal band shift. It's shifted up a bit, it's stretched out over the metal tang, just a bit, no wobble at all.

It's not made for wood chopping, the edge is too straight, and it's just too thick. You can sharpen the edge, but you'll have to thin it down way back to make much difference. Even then, there is so little edge you won't be taking bit bites of wood.

Throw it, have fun, you'll get your money's worth out of it. IF you want a real wood chopper, you'll need to spend a little bit more, or get a nice used hatchet or axe. There are some great traditional wooden hafted hawks, with forged heads, that can outchop that SOG. Some only cost about $50, others are way more.
