A couple months ago, I purchased 2600 lbs of large coil springs, each weighing 28 lbs. It's true what they say, steel by the ton is significantly cheaper than by the pound. Total cost was $196. I only bought half of what was available. Odds are, this will become swag at shows. . .
I just received the OES sheet on them and am very happy to be the proud owner of over a ton of 5160 with a good pinch of Ni in the alloy. It's on the higher side of the Cr, Si, and Mn range, but still within spec. Looks like I get to start having a signature steel, finally!
