Comments and suggestions please. What do I need to do to get better? Please be honest!

That sheath looks great, clearly some artistic talent helped! To really improve it would be a good idea to make a few more and send them off to me...

Joe, it looks very good for the first one.Good stamping does require some practice so use your scraps. Watch your symetry and use some dividers for guidelines.Your use of a groover looks kind of cool but a swivelknife makes a cleaner edge. Keep practicing as your doing well.Dave:)

I agree that a swivel knife makes cleaner edging, and I'll use one on my next sheath.

Which part of the sheath were you referring to that was not symmetrical, and how do you use dividers to correct it? Thanks for the help.

Thanks to everyone else also for the comments.

It looks, from the photo, that the border width varies. The spine side looks to be a bit thinner than the edge side.

The wing divider can be adjusted to set width. You can then scribe equal spaced lines on either side.

Having said that, for a first time effort it's very nice.

Ahh, I got what you're saying. I did notice that, but it was definitely too late. :o

When he said dividers, I thought he meant page dividers, now I know what you're talking about and it makes sense.

Thanks again for the input.

wow, that's REAL nice! good work.

I'm hoping to give it a go soon -- hope it looks half that good.

No problem. I finally bought a set of dividers a couple years back but I don't use them too often.

By the way, what tool did you use to create the stippled (matted) effect in the center of the sheath?

Very nice. I am finishing up my first hand made knife, and want to make my first sheath. Those pictures definitely inspire one to try.

That's pretty nice just like it is.

At this point you're looking at incremental improvements, not major upgrades in quality.
